| Waiting in hope, finding rest, and defying the temptation to rush and resolve everything |
|
| |
A meditation for today... 33:20 We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. 33:21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. 33:22 May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you.
We rush, frenetically, to and fro, accomplishing as much in this life as we can, because this is how we feel good about ourselves, how we look good in the eyes of others, how we get it done for the kingdom of God. We resolve everything, vindicate ourselves, make everything right, finish the story, achieve the goal, solve the problem,
NO. We wait… Deep breath… We wait for the Lord. *sigh* (warning: read the rest slowly)
We wait in HOPE. Hope is not a now thing. Hope looks forward. Hope is reassurance that worries and concerns are for naught, because all will be right when the time comes. God really does have everything under control, so we don’t have to.
We wait in hope for the Lord. HE IS our portion, our fulfillment. He is our ALL. Not the resolution of our problems, the healing of our pains, the accumulation and safeguarding of our wealth. Let our contentment be in HIM. We enjoy him now, and we will enjoy him even more after we’ve waited for him, anticipated him, watched for him, sought him, loved him.
He is our help and our shield. But I need help NOW, and he is too slow! No, wait in hope for the Lord. He is in the midst of my waiting. And he is truth, so therefore he is also my shield. My attackers and accusers have NOTHING on me, for my shield is impenetrable!
IN HIM our hearts rejoice! Yep, still waiting. He is invisible, and he is eternal. AND he is here. With me, with you, with each of us. My, he is so big! Yet he loves even me! I REJOICE!!
And trust, in his holy name, which is truth eternal. What safer place could there be. I feel your unfailing love, Lord. Resting on me, covering me, soothing me, seeping into every corner of my life, redeeming it all. Lord, thank you for your precious words to me today.

[star!] | Mike, I keep hearing this voice say "what you gonna do now?", and the only thing I can do is trust God. Nothing else really matters. I never did like waiting though. Blessings my friend and thanks. |

| Tim, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I too am in a place I don't like. Well, I actually adore MOST of my surroundings, including people and things. But there are a few situations in which I find myself that are less than ideal. Or actually, they just suck. So God has me waiting. What else can I do? Things are WAY beyond my control, and if I thought I had control, I'd be deluding myself. I would also be playing God. So instead, I wait. It's a discipline, and a hard one at that. Gotta accept that life won't be perfect until all is fulfilled. One day faith WILL become sight...... Blessings to you, Tim. You're an overcomer, and I love ya for that. |

[star!] | I too have a problem waiting, especially when it seems like forever. they always say waiting doesn't always mean no, it just means to wait. Sometimes God is up to something better. Patience is not friend. I need a lot more of it. |

| Waiting, one of the hardest things to do. And one of the things we hate most to do! Good thing patience is a fruit of the Spirit. So if I have a problem waiting, I know where to go and what to do. God's word and prayer...seek him, he's there! Thanks Crystal and Bev. |

Thank you for such an excellent Word Mike! Patience is a bitter fruit, sorta of like a kamkwut, but it produces nourishing vitamin C....if we can only stomach it's bitterness to the tongue. :P.....sort of like in the movie Big, when Tom Hanks wipes his mouth out with a napkin....we often would rather spit out patience or go for the tongue washing....rather than swallow that bitter fruit.....which ultimately will nourish our bodies if we can only endure the initial bitterness.....
well.....i'm eating about a dozen kamkwuts today.....and i think i'll do this until the vitamin C kicks in and the fruit of patience is evident in my life...... |

| Gojolly 63.....thanks for the video....but that is the kind of imagery that makes Christians look like our faith is for nutters and lunatics.....there is a quiet passion of Christ that bears the fruit of patience, and it is quietly weathering the storms of life, with quiet internal joy, endurance and temperance.....at least that is my experience in 37 years of the Christian walk.....blessings..... |

[star!] | Read Proverbs today, Mike. It was full of wisdom. Full of promises. Cold hard facts, ya know? So I think about how long eternity is and how so very short our existence here is, and I wonder,"Why the worry?" Sharon, bless you sister. The waiting can be so hard, especially if we've been taught literally our whole lives that the world belongs to go-getters and those who help themselves. I received so much comfort this morning as he exhorted me through his word to rejoice in him, not the things I've always been in a rush to lay hold of myself. Of course, this requires that I wait on him in hope, allowing him to be my help and shield. This does not come easy!! Mule, it's easier not to worry than it is to wait. Isn't it? :-) Love the new profile pic. You look like a natural out there w/the kayak. Herman, your love for the Lord is so very uplifting. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and excitement for the Savior! |

A soldier is wounded and unable to fight any longer. He waits. In pain, in fear. But also in hope. He trusts that his brothers will get to Him as soon as possible.
Wounded But Alive http://www.iljboards.com/showthread.php?t=22384
Yesterday was talking to a sister who is beginning to experience the reality of trusting GOD. It is a difficult transition from trusting the "works of our own hands" (Hosea 14:3 KJV), to be faithful when we do not walk by sight, and to find peace and rest in places we do not want to be in or deserve to be in.
We want to be anointed. GOD wants us to be an ointment. Remember the woman who "wasted" the contents of an alabastar box on Jesus. Remember when Jesus said wherever the gospel is preached tell what she did.
Mark 14 3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. 4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? 5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. 6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. 7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. 8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. 9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
Mike, interesting that Simon the leper's name is mentioned and not this woman's. What she did was more important than who she was. As the soothing oil poured over Jesus' body He was refreshed for what lie ahead. This came at a great price for the woman. But as others focused on the cost she saw the need. How did she know? Did she know? I don't know. But Jesus did.
She was criticized. She was judged. Her actions did not make sense. Others knew the kind of person she really was. She openly humilitated herself. Why this waste? If only she had not poured out everything for one person.
Spikenard is a rare herb. The roots of it are crushed to make the oil that was used to anoint Jesus.
Mike, the fruit of the Spirit is not intended to be self-absorbed. Picked too soon it will taste bitter. Left too long it will spoil. We don't pick it GOD does. The most important part of the fruit is the seeds inside. As they are planted in the lives and hearts of others it will reproduce.
Sometimes the fruit is crushed and made into an ointment. From our pain today comes healing for another tomorrow. 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon me; because Jehovah hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening `of the prison' to them that are bound; You see Mike, I trust that GOD has a purpose and plan for every tear. I do not understand why life is at it is. But I do know whose I am and He knows I know. Patience is waiting for GOD to prepare me so I will have the opportunity to break out my alabaster box.
.....peace.....

Mike, This is scary. I agree with your blog. That should give us both cause for concern :-) While we wait, we do His will, right? We continue to resist the devil. We continue to serve each other. We continue to do the things we see Jesus doing. Abraham and Sarah didn't wait on the Lord when they decided to conceive Ishmael. We conceive our own Ishmaels when we run ahead of the teachings of Christ. It seems to me that "waiting on the Lord" is the Old Testament equivalent of "dying to self". Both teachings focus on what God is doing and not what we should do to fix our situation. We are righteous because we believe the promises of God. But when God seems to be dragging His feet about fulfilling His promise, our job is to wait. The Israelites moved through the wilderness when the pillar of fire and smoke moved. When the pillar stopped, the Israelites stopped. It would have been foolish for them to run ahead of the pillar or continue to rest when the pillar moved. We are in training to be the bride of Christ. He is not compatible with a woman who runs ahead of Him. His bride is as He is. Jesus did nothing that He didn't see His Father doing. He is our example. Timing is everything. Too many cooks spoil the broth. We are worthy to be the bride of Christ when we operate like Jesus did. When a storm threatened Jesus and His disciples, He took action. He spoke to the wind and the waves and they obeyed Him. He didn't ask God to calm the storm - He spoke to the storm - "Peace. Be still". This is important because we have people "waiting on God" to rescue them from things they have power over. When people brought the sick and infirm to Jesus, He healed them. He didn't pray for God to heal them, He did it. Jesus is our example. He cast out demons with a word. He did not tolerate religious error. He did the things He saw His Father doing and He is our example. Waiting on God is an art. We wait for His promises to us to be fulfilled while we continue to take action against the works of the devil. 4:20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
4:21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 4:22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Abraham waited 25-years for the promise of God to be manifest in the natural. Rob |

Rob, not scary at all bro. We agree on lots, I'm sure. Not everything though. THAT would be scary. BTW, I fully agree w/this: "..when God seems to be dragging His feet about fulfilling His promise, our job is to wait." God has his timing, his plans, right? Do we question his sovereignty or his goodness just b/c his timing seems too late for our comfort? (This is far easier to say than put into practice, too.) Gordon, you said "..the fruit of the Spirit is not intended to be self-absorbed." Amen, it's all about letting our light shine. This is one of the thoughts that keeps me going through some of the difficulties I've experienced recently. The most important part are the seeds? Yes, and hopefully those who see us suffer meekly are themselves the SOIL into which we sow those seeds. God bless, brother. |

Mike, As a name-it-and-claim-it kind of guy, I am aware of God's timing (painfully aware). We are commanded to ask and receive that our joy may be full. 16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. Hope differed maketh the heart sick but when the desire cometh it is the tree of life, we are told. God wants us to ask (name-it) and receive (claim-it) so that our joy may be full. If we don't ask then our obedience is lacking. 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Jesus is not promoting covetousness when He commands that we ask in His name. Covetousness is an attitude. Having an abundance of things and riches without being rich toward God is vanity and vexation of the spirit. Greed is the root of all evil. The sin of greed is not limited to rich people. If you're a fool, riches will destroy you. But if you're a fool, poverty will destroy you. We are to ask with the confidence that what we ask for will be given us. Abraham was righteous only because he was fully persuaded that what God had promised He was able also to perform. God has promised that our hearts desire will be given to us. 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. If we are delighted in the Lord then we won't be asking out of greed or selfishness but out of trust and obedience. Understanding God's timing is a challenge but just because it may seem that God is slack concerning His promises is no reason to stop asking with boldness and confidence in the name of Jesus. God's timing is just the kind of thing that can discourage us and cause us to lose confidence in Him. It can lead us into lowered expectations. Lack of confidence and lowered expectations are signs that we've failed the test. Doctrines that teach us not to ask for whatever we wish are ways that churches have institutionalized mistrust of God and disobedience to His word. Before you pooh-pooh name-it-and-claim-it, make absolutely sure that you are still in the faith. |

[star!] | This made me think of when I first prayed, Lord, if you are real, bring him back to me. 26 years later, Jim came back into my life. God's timing. (for those who don't know, my husband dumped me in 1975 after dating a couple of months...and I became a Christian after I first prayed. Actually it was November 13th, 1975 that I accepted Christ. This is my spiritual birthday! Just realized it. 34 years in His service. I am so happy to be on YOUR blog when I realized it. Love you brother. Hang on ....you won't have to wait 26 years.
