Here's my side of a conversation with a young woman about how to relate to people of other faiths. I could go on and on about this issue, but this may be the shortest paragraph I've written about it, and for that reason probably the best.
Here’s the thing: there really is only one God, and every religious tradition reaches toward that God in the best way they know how. As Christians we believe that God has been most fully revealed in the person of Jesus—that to know him is to know God. Our experience of Jesus is that he really is “the way, the truth, and the life.” But that doesn’t mean other religious traditions haven’t learned some things about God that are also life-changing and true. To ask the question, “What do you love about your religious tradition?” is a good way to start the conversation. It gives us, as Christians, a way to talk about our love for the Christian faith, and for Jesus in particular, without sounding like we’re saying, “My God’s better than your God” (nanny-nanny-boo-boo).
