22:17 And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance; 22:18 And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me. 22:19 And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee: 22:20 And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him. 22:21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles. 22:22 And they gave him audience unto this word, and [then] lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a [fellow] from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live. The crowd listened to Paul’s testimony until he told them that the Lord had sent him to the Gentiles. This set the crowd in an uproar. They got loud and started throwing dirt in the air and raising all kinds of commotion. The centurion carted him away and planned to flog Paul to appease the crowd. Paul played the Roman citizen card to stop this. >The crowd was calm and listening until they heard the Gospel was to be taken to the Gentiles. ---wow. They had no room in their hearts to share the Messiah. The funny thing was that Jesus didn’t hide the fact that he first came to the house of Israel 15:24 But he answered and said, I was not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. but they rejected him 19:42 saying, If thou hadst known in this day, even thou, the things which belong unto peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. 19:43 For the days shall come upon thee, when thine enemies shall cast up a bank about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, 19:44 and shall dash thee to the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. I praise God that there is room at the cross for me. |
