| I cannot be enticed by the enemy |

Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Satan uses many tools to attack God's children. We must realize that if we serve the Lord then we are choosing to guard the blessing. And, just like Balaam and Christ, it may not be our own promise.
Joshua said in the book titled after his own name that he would serve the Lord no matter whom or what his fellow people decided to serve. Balaam, although not one of the Israelites, chose to obey the Lord no matter what the enemy offered for his reward (Numbers 22:18).
Balak offered Balaam a very handsome reward if he would curse the Israelites. Balak knew who to go to in order to get what he wanted. Why did he choose Balaam? Well, the bible says that Balaam could get what he wanted. (Numbers 22:5-6)
Balaam recognized the Lord as a powerful God and he waited for an answer from the Lord. The Lord told Balaam not to curse His people. Balaam listened to the Lord but Balak did not take no for an answer. Balak enticed Balaam several times and each time he made his plea more convincing than the last.
Even after all this, Balaam still fell strong on his stand that he would not curse the Israelites because the Lord said so (Numbers 24:13).
What can we learn from Balaam in the Old Testament and apply to our lives today? Well, whatever the Lord God says, we must obey.
And briefly, Jesus Christ also stood his ground after being tempted by satan in the desert. Three times satan tempted Christ and offered him a great reward if he gave in. But Christ stood strong and held his ground knowing that the Lord had a master plan that he should not distort.
And the most important question out of all of this is...
Will I still choose to protect the blessing if God told me that the blessing was not mine, yet another's?
Are you the vessle carrying my blessing? |
