"...You're in my heart, I can feel you beat. You move my mind from behind the wheel. When I lose control, I can only breathe your name..." The above quote is a line from the song, Breathe Your Name by Sixpence None The Richer from their last disc as a band, "Divine Discontent" (Which is a title borrowed from C.S. Lewis).
This is an incredible cd, and a must have for any fan of Sixpence, or Leigh Nash. (The lead vocalist and front-person for the band) Believe it or not though, my purpose with this blog, is not to review this song, or CD. I was listening to this CD this morning as I got ready, and the statement that I quoted really hit me. The parts about being removed from "behind the wheel" and "when I lose control, I can only breathe your name." especially stood out to me. With my 2 part message series starting this Sunday, ("Breaking the Chains: Ending the Cycle of Sin and Guilt") I thought about my themes- "Giving Up On Self, Giving In To God" and "Surrender=Victory" In both messages, my point is that if we ever hope as Christians to succeed spiritually, if we ever hope to truly know consistent freedom from sin, and the guilt that accompanies that sin, then we have to step away from the control, and we have to allow the Lord to remove us from behind the "steering wheel" of the Christian life, and sanctification process. Most of the time, this is a hard process, and it just about always "takes the wind out of us" so to speak. Sometimes we are so weak, all we can do is barely breathe the name of Jesus, gasping and crying out for help and strength. Even if it just a breathe or a desperate whisper, our Lord Jesus hears us, and provides the deliverance we seek from our flesh. He holds all keys to unlock any of the chains we bear. Are you allowing Him to keep you unlocked from sin, and locked up to Himself? I hope so and pray this, for you, for my own life, for all of His Church. Let us pray for one another, that we continually allow Christ to break the chains of self, and sin in our lives. God bless! Chris. |
