Thanks,

I'm a guitar player myself and, yes, I've viewed all the guitarists and Keaggy is the best. Tasty morsels!

Makes me almost want to trade my flute for a guitar.

After watching someone like him play I just sit and stare at my guitar trying to figure out if there were 2 or three guys playing behind the curtain......then I realize I really was in Kansas, just in the presence of a master....sigh........

Such a clean cut fellow too! What a stark contrast exists between Phil and the likes of Hendrix, Page, etc. And such amazing talent -- glory to God!

Agreed Mike. Keaggy has never gotten the recognition that he should have. The only guitar player I've heard that is extremely close (but not there) to him was Zappa (with a totally anti-christ attitude and life). Page was also very good and very experimental. I might put Les Paul even higher than Page. Hendrix was overrated.

The thing that has made Keaggy so great through the years also is that his music is extremely tastful or tasty. Some guys like Stevey Ray were technically ok (but overated) but their music was just boring and tasteless.

Oh, another great Christian guitar player is Ty Tabor. I'd put him up there with the top 10.

What is the kb? I certainly saw nothing on either trailors that would make me trade for a flute but when viewing the talent of Keaggy one could easily give up and trade....

What was your point Melanie? Can you explain further? Where was the music in the trailers??? Just wondering.

Melanie,

I have to plead ignorance on Sambora, can you send me some links to mp3's? Keaggy getting saved did not improve his playing IMHO 1000%, I'm not sure that salvation would guarantee better musicianship, though it might help. What does help is a combination of natural talent, taste, and hard work, something the Keaggy has done throughout his career...and he still seems to be churning out about 3cd's per year.

I have never heard this guy before, and I like to think I know about guitar players,,,,,Amazing stuff
Its kind of Prog stuff, kind of jazz, kind of jam band ....and this dude is Christian???
Thanks for turning me on to him...

When they used to do that kind of thing, even Playboy ranked him among the top ten guitar players each year. As to if he's a Christian, I think he's an exemplary example of a man of God! At the time of Glass Harp, they were opening for all the major rock groups of the time, from Frampton to the Stones, if i remember correctly. It's been said that Frampton called him, not the best guitarist, but the shortest guitarist! He even has an urban legend about him,,,,,

Yes, but who was Frampton (an extremely subpar player) to determine best guitarists and who did he suggest was "best". Adam, Keaggy has about 45 years playing experience and never has gotten his due.

Frampton was right about how short he is but it seemed more ligke a slight remark by a subpar musician (even at his peak not worth mentioning).

I've heard  couple people say that Eric Clapton was once asked what it was like to be the best guitar player in the world. His response was, "I don't know, go ask Phil Keaggy."

As far as other good guitar players go...Dave Matthews is really good, and Shane and Shane do some cool stuff in their music but I don't think they "jam."

Came late to the party, but after having watched Keaggy "up close and personal" he often uses a foot pedal "riff recorder" which makes him sound like several guitarists --all the more impressive in that he can actually use the thing in a live setting in a meaningful way. The man's incredible!

Phil and "Sir Paul" back when Phil had more hair!

I remember this old pic Hal. Too bad McCartney hasn't half the talent of Keaggy. After the beatles he basically did nothing whereas Keaggy has continued for what? 45 years? And always improving.
