| Just like us |

I suppose I've bought a lot of deceptions in my life. A lot of them I've lived with so long that I just assumed that they were the truth One of them was that God chose people because they had already become squeeky clean. Like he chose Peter, John, James, and Andrew 'cause they were the goody two shoes of the fishing fleet. Of course he picked matthew because he was the only upstanding tax collecter.
I remember once upon a time when I was waiting for a load of laundry to spin dry I had a bottle of whiskey in one hand and a joint in the other hand, and I looked in the mirror and watched a bunch of men and women walking into a church and I thought to myself God probably does love people like that, but at that time I could no longer walk into a church than I could walk on the moon.
I remember that song what if God was one of us. Now I'm thinking that's the point. God was one of us. And he picks people just like us, sometimes when I pray these days I'm thinkin' did I choose to pray or did Christ call me?
When it comes to prayer I have no doubt that humans were wired to pray. It's kind of awsome that we can get on our knees and have the attention of the creator of the universe. I mean I live in a town of 50,000 or so (Terre Haute, IN ) and I can't even get the mayor to answer my calls. |
