The reading for day 79 was Acts 17:1-28:31
"These Men Who Have Upset the World Have Come Here Also" This part of verse 6 in chapter 17 stuck out to me. Shouldn't people be saying things like that about us today as well? What are we doing to upset the world? It seems to me that instead of upsetting the world, we try to fit in and get them to like us. What should we really be doing?
Also in chapter 17 verses 10-12 we see the Bereans who were commended for their searching of the scriptures to find out whether or not Paul was telling them the truth. 17:12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few. My wife's step-brother is a self-proclaimed atheist. For some reason, he has begun reading through the Bible book by book. Please pray that, as the Bereans who believed because of the scriptures, he would believe in Jesus.
18:8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized. I'm sure some of you followed the conversation on this blog about baptism. It seems to me that in all of these passages, water baptism always follows belief. What do you think of this?
I thought this verse was kinda funny: 19:11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
Don't you think thats kinda redundant?
The rest of Acts is about Paul going to Jerusalem and subsequently to Rome. A lot of things happened on the way, but the most important, it seems, were his defenses of the gospel to the authorities. He spent years in chains just waiting to give his defense of the gospel only to go back into chains for a couple more years, again waiting for a chance to defend the gospel. That gives a lot more credit to Paul when he tells us to "be ready in season and out of season." May we be like Paul and be ready to be on trial "for the hope and resurrection of the dead!"
