| Are You Dining with the Master? |
|
| |
You may have had similar experiences that I had growing up. I remember that my step-father had certain rules around the dinner table. My brother and I were not allowed to get up until everything on our plates had been eaten. I remember on one occasion when I sat at the table by myself refusing to eat my mashed potatoes after everyone else had long since finished. However, after a two hour stalemate, I finally gave in and finished my plate. To be sure, mashed potatoes are never good cold. Unlike my step-father, our Heavenly Father does not force us to daily eat at His table. He leaves that decision up to His children. We have the power to decide if we want to partake of the nourishment that we so desperately need spiritually or continue on in our day spiritually malnourished. The decision is up to us.
To maintain a healthy spiritual lifestyle requires that we spend adequate time at the Master’s Table in communion with Him. The other day one of my My Church friends, Lourdes, gave an excellent illustration when she responded to my blog on prayer. She equated our time with God to how we use our cell phones. If you are like me, you would never consider leaving the house without your cell phone. However, we don’t think twice about leaving home without having our time with God. She concluded that we need to treat our time with God as important as we do our cell phones. She is exactly right!
Jim Cymbala, the renowned Pastor of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church, is one of our nation’s leading experts on prayer. In an interview with the 700 Club he was asked to offer a definition of prayer. His response was that “prayer is the opening of the heart so we can receive all these good things that God has for us every day. It's like sitting down at a table that God has prepared for us. He says, 'I have everything you need today - all the grace, all the wisdom, all the provision that you need - but sit down at the table and eat. Don't be so rushed and so busy and try to live without My supply’.”
May we resolve this week to do what Cymbala suggests. Let’s decide to develop that daily discipline of having our quiet time with God. And let me add just one more thing: Let’s leave our cell phones next to our Bibles as a reminder.

| Pastor Tim, you are writing some excellent, extremely inspirational blogs on prayer. Keep it up, I need it! ~mike (ps...Actually, I think we all do!) |
|
|
| Thanks for sharing, awesome work. |
|
|
Mike and Alf thank you for your comments.
Mike, regarding your comment that we all need to grow in prayer, you are exactly right. This seems to be a dry time for me. During this time I am seeking to develop my prayer life. |

This is exactly what our message was about in last night's service, and exactly what I need to remind myself to do. Talk to God without rushing, without distractions, I need to find a closet. Thanks Pastor Tim. Denise |

| Denise I am glad that it ministered to you! |

Well, you see, cold mash potatos work good as candy now. A little powdered sugar & your good to go! If you only knew that then huh!
I read a book about the Brokklyn Tabernacle Choir. When the church first started, they had little to no music experience. Their Choir practices turned into prayer time, & bam! Look at them now! They have a real revelation of prayer.
Thanks for bringing us closer to the Father! |

| Thanks Shannon. If I only would have known about the powered sugar it would have saved me many hours at the dinner table. |

| We all need time alone with God. For me it is sitting on the beach watching the waves roll in and taking in all the beauty God has given to each and every one of us. He is an awesome God! |

thanks ... we are going through things and God is all we have.. Thank you |

I thank God for the lesson my earthly father taught me. As busy as he was, he always ate breakfast with me in the morning, and he always told me that he loved me and appreciated our time together. My dad was uncool in so many ways, but what an impact he had on my relationship with God. So, my friend, thanks for the reminder. Before I leave the house, i need to eat with my dad and let Him share his thoughts with me for my day.
God Bless! |

I look forward for more from you in the future. May i request you to kindly send me few articles so that we may translate in to our mother tongue and publish in our newsletter. Plesae let me know. | I used to have to sit at the dinner table until I had eaten everything too. My biggest problem was milk...I hate milk, and my mother would make me sit there until I drank every drop. Milk is especially nasty when it has warmed to room temperature. When my mother added a little chocolate to it though, it tasted much better and went down a lot quicker! I guess we should consider God our "chocolate", and we should remember to include Him in our day. |

Pastor Tim you truly gave me a lot to think about not just my cell phone there are a lot of things in this world we put before have fellowship with the Master. I rushing around get a head start on things, but I must remeber to put God first in all things and I confessI am guilty, and I did already after I read this ask my God to forgive me and I will be more mindful about my pirorities.
Thank You |

| At my home Church last night I went to a seminar on "soaking", in prayer and I've been hearing a lot about asking God for revelation. I.E. who am I unwilling to forgive. as I desparately need Father's forgiveness. I believe prayer and Bible Study would be "my daily bread". I've really been drawn to the 23rd psam a lot lately which if there was ever a piece of scripture that I take for granted this would be it. "He causes me to lie down in green pastures" would be supper to a sheep. Hence the word, I tend to equate still waters with prayer. Now if I could just regularly practice it. I know God wants obedience not sacrifice. |

| Oh yeah I forgot to mention scrumptious Blog and delicious discussion. Yum. |

| This is a good blog my brother. Its so true that many people take there cell phones instead of there Bibles every where and much more. We have to conceder that when you dedicate your life to the Holy Trinity your lifestyle begings to change in a way that many have tried but still cant do it. The Bible says that in vain works the worker if our LORD doesnt build the house. When you dedicate your lifestyle to the LORD you are blessing the LORD and woshiping the LORD. Thats why David wrote i would bless the LORD all time with all my soul and never forget His benefits. In a the Hebrew translation the word of blessing means bless the LORD with worship and in viceverce He blesses you with benefits. So when you dedicate your life to the LORD your dedication changes your natural lifestyle to a supernatural lifestyle. Ima stop ima get into it. May our Father keep blessing you brother |

| Excellent blog Pastor Tim!! Great idea about leaving your cell phone right by your Bible.....although I would recommend that you put it on vibrate before entering the House of the Lord ;) |

Thank you Matthew, Omarlito, Lourdes, Dave, MaKelly, Deb, Kay, Shoeless, Jen, CaFlicker, Brad, Soul Winner, and Shoeless for your comments. God, through a relationship with Him, does bring us ultimate satisfaction.
According to Reformed Pastor, Dr. John Piper, " God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him. We all make a god out of what we take the most pleasure in. Christian Hedonists want to make God their God by seeking after the greatest pleasure—pleasure in him. By Christian Hedonism, we do not mean that our happiness is the highest good. We mean that pursuing the highest good will always result in our greatest happiness in the end. We should pursue this happiness, and pursue it with all our might. The desire to be happy is a proper motive for every good deed, and if you abandon the pursuit of your own joy you cannot love man or please God." |

| Another great post by Pastor Tim! I have even turned around and gone back home to get my cell phone (especially since "Bessie" is a road hazard, and my roadside assistance is only covered when I have my cell phone :) But have I ever "turned around" because I didn't spend time with God? Okay, I have started praying in the car :) |
|
|
| Thanks Sue. There have been days when I left my house without spending time with God and wished I would have turned my car around because how my day turned out. |

WOW THAT WAS REALLY INSPIRING TO ME AND I THINK TO ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE WHO READ IT!!!! |

Another great post! It brought to mind this verse:
3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. I look forward to breakfast with the Lord every morning! I desperately miss Him on those very rare days when I am hurried and have to rush through my devotional, or skip it altogether. |
|
|
| Thanks Tori and Prue for your kind words. Prue, your Scripture verse is right on the money. Jesus is waiting to answer the door. |
|
|
| I used to find "The Daily Bread" a good way to do this Now I am going to try to read the annual readings of scripture found in Tanuka and Bible ( as Traditionally was done thus Christ when he read from the skroll was abel to say" this day " what he had read would come true. he was fulfilling it as he read. and perhaps it is not a bad thing to be on the same page as the Jews when he comes back again for scripture says then they will recognise him (will most so called Christians) |
|
|
| Thank you Pastor Tim I needed this. We are always putting something else before God... Isn't that just plain dumb! Again, thank you |
