| There may be one less medical student tonight |

O.K. So this has absolutely no spiritual application - this is just something funny that happened today.
I took Timothy to his pediatrician this morning. We got an early appointment (8:20). My pediatrician works with FSU School of Medicine and often has medical students in her office doing something like internships.
We always seem to get one of these students. She knows that Timothy is a very easy patient. He has the routine down so well, he says "ahhhhh" before they even ask. He knows just what to do.
Well, today, we got a brand new student. This was his very first day and his very first time in pediatrics -- and Timothy was his very first patient.
Timothy did great at first -- didn't even flinch. He went through all the normal stuff. The poor guy seemed very nervous, but Timothy was being very cooperative.
Then it was time to check his ears. He checked his right ear first and that was fine. Then, it was time to check his left ear (the one he has said hurts). He just barely put the otoscope in Timothy's ear, and Timothy just burst out wailing and sobbing. Timothy has *never* cried like that there - not even through all the blood tests he has had. He sobbed and sobbed that it hurt. The poor med. student looked horrified. I felt so bad for Timothy and the student. He (the student) did not see that one coming (I didn't either). Poor guy - I bet he will never forget his first pediatric patient. |
