119:103 How sweet are thy words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! We all have our favorite comfort food. I have two: chocolate and breakfast (bacon, eggs, toast, grits, etc -- but not for breakfast -- I like it for dinner). In the beginning days of my separation, I had a dear friend who would call me most evenings on her way home from work. She would often ask what we were having for dinner because she knew if it was breakfast, then I had had a rough day! .
I love Psalms 119. It's my favorite Psalm -- and the longest -which means there is just more to love. The whole chapter is about how wonderful God's word is for us. It should be our comfort food as verse 103 says.
God's word has not always been that for me, but in the past two years, it has become that for me. Sometimes, I just long for the time when I can lie on my bed and read my Bible and find comfort in God's words to me.
"Your statues are my delight; they are my counselors." Psalm 119:24
I found great help in going through professional counseling earlier this year -- and now I can continue to be counseled by God's word any time-- day or night -- as often as I need it.
"If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction." Psalm 119:92
I am a testimony to that every day. There are many days I just would have given up if it weren't for the hope and strength I received from God's word.
"Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble" Pslam 119:163
To fall in love with God's word is so important - and so easy. God knew every trouble I would face, and He has given me hope for each situation in His word. It's right there - just waiting for me to read it. I think I fall in love with His word more and more each day, as I find something new in his word that was meant just for me every day.
