Good job Dave!  I won't give you advice.  God knows how to lead you, but I'm a poor substitute for Him.  I'll just keep praying for you =D

So is praise a good way to resist the enemy?  Thanks for the comments and support one and all.

Well, since you ask.  The best thing I've found to do when Satan attacks is to take the issue to God.  I also tell God my thoughts/attitudes and memories of whatever Satan is attacking me about are Gods.  If God owns them, Satan can't seem to use them against me (i.e. tempting memories don't surface if I do this).  The biggest thing I do is not focus on Satan or how he's tempting me.  Hebrews says "fix your eyes on Jesus".   That seems to work for me.

How exciting for you, Dave!  I remember when my folks quit smoking (after getting up to a pack or two a day) and how hard it was for them.  I've never smoked, but I can imagine how difficult it would be and what a victory it is for you to get up to two months smoke free.  Rock on!

Having smoked for more than 35 years, I eventually quit cold turkey almost five months ago.  Brother is it difficult sometimes!  We certainly need to encourage one another and so I must share my daily word reading received yesterday from our local SA Radio Pulpit:
GALATIANS 5:17 NIV

Winning the battle

How can you win in the unrelenting battle between your flesh and your Spirit?By first acknowledging that there is a battle! Your flesh will always crave satisfaction in the very things God hates. This age-old civil war rages on. Your flesh never takes a holiday. (2) By admitting that you are powerless to win without God's help! By consciously submitting to God you draw on His strength in the first moments of each test. And your ability to do that will grow as you keep practicing this Spiritual discipline. The closer you draw to God, the stronger you become when faced with temptation. (3) By deciding that self-discipline is a personal matter! You can depend on no one else to develop it for you. Paul writes, "I run.I box.I discipline my body" (1 Co 9:26-27 AMP). This is something only you can do. If someone else has to restrain you, it doesn't work! (4) By understanding that ignoring the consequences invites disaster! Lack of self-discipline will inevitably lead to embarrassment for you, and those you love. So before you indulge, consider the fallout! In 1 Co 9:27 (NAS), Paul speaks about being "disqualified." What does that mean? It means losing respect in the eyes of others. It means limiting God's ability to use you for His purposes. It means hurting the cause of Christ in the eyes of a world that's always watching. When David committed adultery with Bathsheba, Nathan the prophet said to him, "By doing this you have made the enemies of the Lord show utter contempt" (2 Sa 12:14 NIV).Want to win the battle? Keep these things in mind!SoulFood Reading: 1 Kings 10-11, Matt 13:36-46, Ps 113, Pr 12:15-17

God bless and keep you strong.  I'll be thinking of you and keep you in my prayers.

Hey Dave !!!  I applaud you.........When temptations come your wai from Satan, read the prayer I have in one of my blogs.........It really does work, put it to use and make it a personal prayer from you to the Master.......you KNOW HE is not going to let you down.....

Again, I am very impressed ... keep up the great work Dave, I am very proud of you..........Now just defeat Satan at his own game, and show him yuou are the Master, and that YOUR master is the master of all things.....

Love you in Christ

Trinity.....

P. S. If at anytime you wish to talk about it.  Feel like you are going to fall to the tempations of the Devil, I am here and will be more than Glad to pray for you and yours, for all the great things you are doing for Christ...Amen??????

Thanks Jen, Thanks Sue, Thanks Trin, Thanks Bev. Christianity is way better than just trying to trust the God of my understanding.  (thosw with a twelve step background know what I mean there.)
