Idoit. Moron. Looser. Geek. Nerd. Worthless. Coward. Wimp. Spazz. Fool. Retard.
No one likes you. Get away from us. You don't belong here. You're not wanted here. Go away.
What does this have to do with school you ask?
Easy. This was the kind of things that I would hear daily at school. Even worse to be honest. You see, I wasn't the kind of person that fit in very well. Too skinny. Bad teeth. I didn't dress like the cool kids. I didn't care enough to put my intellegence to use (except for day dreaming). I was lazy (hey, honesty is a hard pill to swallow sometimes). I had different ideas than the masses. I was easy to single out for abuse.
Put into trashcans. My backpack dumped. Bumped into whenever I was at my locker or at a drinking fountain (I refuse to say bubbler). Things stolen from my locker.
Every school has people that will be subject to these type of words and actions. That's unfortunate, but sadly true.
You see, Columbine could have happened a decade sooner. I actually had visions of things like that happening, but in them I was the "hero" who saved the day. The reality is that I hated myself so much because of all the things that were done to me and said to me that it could have easily been the other way around.
"Good job on that test." "Nice hustle on the court." "How are you today?" "Can you help me with this question?"
Simple words, even a hello, can go along way.
Everyone wants to feel like they belong. It doesn't matter what they look like, how they act, how they dress, or the color of their skin. Getting picked last once is no fun, knowing that it's going to happen everytime is torture. Trust me. I've been there, even on things I was good at. I know my life could have been different had someone given me the chance. If nothing else I know I would have at least had the will to try.
We don't have to be friends with everyone, but we are told to love each other. You don't have to be friends to kind to someone.
So what happens when you see someone getting picked on?
What happens when you see someone sitting all by their self?
Are you going to turn you back on someone just because you think they are annoying?
Will you listen for the cries for help?
You have the power to make a difference in a persons life.
Will you use it?
25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, `even' these least, ye did it unto me.
