3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep [you] from evil. Remember the woman at the well in Samaria. It was a city that had fallen into idolatry. Yet one day a woman went to a certain well there, and there she had an encounter with Jesus. During this encounter the woman let’s Jesus know that she was seeking after God and Jesus reveals to her that he is the messiah. He also reveals to the woman that he knows her history, that she has had several husbands in the past. (John 4:3-29) This woman had been diligently seeking God, she knew that she wanted to meet with God, yet was told that the only place to meet with God was in Jerusalem. This woman was broken, looking for love in all the wrong places, most likely by now simply developed a reputation of promiscuity (for us its like when we’ve tried everything but Jesus, the scoffers come). Yet God was faithful to send to her Jesus. It was at an appointed time, she was seeking God, and God found her, he was faithful to show up when she needed him most. In our day and age, we are starting to see things that we counted faithful to be anything but more and more (bridges, gov’t, pastors, teachers, news, print, and media). We especially see the breakdown of faithfulness when we have set up a foundation that is not Jesus Christ in our life. We especially need to know that God is faithful in regards to our sin. I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We don’t know how many times the woman at the well went out expecting to meet with God, but eventually when she did go out, God was faithful to meet her there. And in meeting her there, a seed was planted that sparked a spiritual revival in the city of Samaria Remember 1Th 5:24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
