Baptism by death?

 Many people think differently on the subject of baptism. Some say that it is required for salvation, and others believe that water is not required for baptism, but altogether, isn't baptism a public display to show and represent your faith and belief? I mean, I'm not an expert on Christianity, or anything else for that matter, but that is the down-to-earth basics isn't it? It may be neccesary, it may not be, but altogether, as I stated before, it IS a symbol isn't it? Be it a symbol to show the 'Old man's' death, and the 'New Man's' birth or as a symbol to show your acceptance of Jesus Christ, it still is a symbol. (Please forgive me if I'm being irreverant to anyones beliefs) So could you be baptized by bullets, per se, in front of your family, friends, and neighbors? Or for those who believe in baptizm by water, by being drowned? (Again, I'm sorry for any irreverance) I mean, for example, the antichrist has taken over the political world, those who have already been baptized have been ratured, and Christianity has been banned and the punishment for being a Christian would be death, etc., and you have been caught praying. If the antichrists catch you, and kills you in front of everyone for being Christian, couldn't this be considered a symbol of being saved? Couldn't this be a considered to be a testimony to the non-Christians? Is this baptism by death a baptism? Again, I'm sorry if I've been irreverant to anyones beliefs, please forgive me.

Pat, I take the above verse to mean that there is only one type of Baptism.

I do however get what your saying. But I tend to think there is a difference between being martyred for your faith and "technically" being baptized which was a command from Jesus. I say that only because I believe the word Baptized means to be submerged and by context it was being submerged to show your faith as you said.  However, I do agree that your statement is correct and a person who sacrifices themsleves for there faith would be saved and his act would be a symbol of faith to his fellow Christians, but I am not sure if that act would be considered a "Baptism".  Thats just my 2 cents and it may not even be worth that much...

pat im not sure if you could be baptized by a bullet but the drowning theory could work if you proclaim your faith before dying. And being maytered for your faith isnt a baptism but an even stronger show of your faith

well, the whole thing about Baptims being *just* a symbol is were many theologies clash...

but I would say there is such a thing as Baptism of desire and Baptism of Blood.
Anyone who desires to be Baptized but cannot (like dying beforehand or something like that) and anyone who dies for the faith without being properly "initiated" I would say receives the same Grace as being Baptized with water....

just my two cents :)
