| What If? |

Well, after 7 years in a school gym, we have now had 6 services in our newly acquired facility. It is great to finally have a "home." It has been quite an eye-opener to be reminded of everything that comes with having a building - pulling weeds, cutting grass, watering flowers, dusting, cleaning toilets, and a whole list of other duties. I have also noticed how much we can care about the building. I understand that. This is a place where we come together to meet with God. But we can get very worried about the building - keep the kids from bringing food and drinks into the sanctuary, don't put holes in the walls, etc.
Our church has invested a lot of time and energy into our new home. But, I have to confess, we have done so at the expense of reaching a lost world with the Gospel. What if all of our churches invested as much, or more, time and energy and money in reaching the lost as we do caring for the building in which we meet every Sunday?
If nobody cleaned your building in 3 months, what priority would it become for the church leadership to address? What if our churches go three months without seeing someone come to Christ? Do we even notice? Do we shrug it off? Do we throw ourselves before the Lord in fervent prayer?
What if our concern for the lost was greater than our concern for our buildings? Just thought. |
