| Timothy's Good Day |

This may sound a little strange to most of you, but today was a big day for Timothy. He actually talked about his day at preschool on the way home.
See, Timothy talks -- and he talks a lot -- but he never really talks about personal things. He's been in preschool for four weeks now, and has not ever mentioned another child's name or even his teacher's name. His teacher summed it up in a nutshell the other day. She said that he communicates -- he just does not have the emotional attachment to go with it. The other children are equal to the toys in the room in his eyes. He may play with them, but it's just because they are there -- not because he has any emotion to go with it.
Every day, I try to get him to talk about his day. Every once in a while, I can pull some little nugget about his day out of him - but it's a lot like pulling teeth. However, today was a big day. A fireman and fire truck came to his school today. When he got in the van, he began to talk about the firetruck and the fireman and his mask and gas tank, etc - all on his own!
So, like I said - this may sound really strange to most of you - but it's a big deal for Timothy -- and of course for me too! . |
