| The Widow's Mite - Lord, I Don't Have Much But What I Have Is Yours |
|
| |
I had the blessing of being able to share this little devotional, about the widow's mite, with the choir a few years back. So there is much more to this message than finances, although money can certainly be applied here. Let's first take a look at Luke 21:1-4
21:1 He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury; 21:2 and he saw a poor widow put in two copper coins. 21:3 And he said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; 21:4 for they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all the living that she had." We see here that even after the "rich" people put their offerings in the plate, Jesus points out the one person who probably gave the lowest amount, but who gave all that she had. Many times we don't feel that we can "give" like our fellow believers. Whether it's our money, time or talent. But we read from these verses that it's not how much we give total, but what you give out of what you have to give. When people give out of their abundance, they don't feel the sacrifice like this poor widow did. I think this is part of what Jesus is saying here. And we see that this women's "little bit" was much more than the others gave, according to Jesus.
So let's apply this to other things, such as our time and our talent. Someone who is naturally gifted at something, may be able to give a lot more, because they have a lot to give. But I think that Jesus loves to see his saints, who don't have as much to give, when they give everything they have. It's always an issue of the heart.
Humans can arrogantly watch and say, "look at the little bit this person has given." But God looks down at the small amount and says, "Wow, look! He/she gave everything!" When we give all we have, I am quite certain that God multiplies our offerings. Again, I am not necessarily talking about money here. And just to clarify, I would never suggest to give away all of your money :) I am more talking about time and talent in this post.
Another important aspect of this is to realize that you can only give what God has given you to give. Let's read 1 Peter 4:10-11.
4:10 As each has received a gift, employ it for one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: 4:11 whoever speaks, as one who utters oracles of God; whoever renders service, as one who renders it by the strength which God supplies; in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. We read that we can only give out of the strength that God has given us. I think this is a good verse to help us not compare ourselves with others. To look up to someone, because they have more to give, is like standing by the offering plate and only recognizing the large amounts. But to look down on someone, who doesn't have much to give, is even worse. IMHO. Remember that Jesus choose to point out the lower amount, not the greater.
If you are concerned that you don't have much to offer, remember that we serve a Big God, who uses the foolish things of this earth to confound the wise :) And I do think that we should be faithful stewards with what God has given us, and seek to multiply our talents and treasures. When we give God all that we have to offer, He doesn't ask anymore than that from us. I'm feeling the freedom!
In my very first post, I talked about how God sees His children when they do their best. You know how proud we are when we see our kids do their personal best. How much more do you think our Heavenly Father feels when we give all we've got?
Let's not forget that man looks at the outward, but God looks at the heart. So when you find yourselves in a position to give your God given resources back to Him, remember to give all you have to give and leave the rest of up to Him. And when you do need help, let your help come from the Lord. You may not be able to give what your brother/sister can give, but God is asking from you! He is so worthy of all that we have. He is worthy to receive what He has freely given us. You are a one-of-a-kind masterpiece of God's creation! Glorify Him with your life as only you can.

| Beautiful post, Sue! I like how you broadened the scope from money to time and talents. This is very timely too, considering the emphasis on money/finances in the upcoming Community Groups trimester. ~mike |

Hello Sister Sue, Greetings in Jesus name I am blessed by the new insight on giving to the Lord. Yes as you said the Lord demands not only our Money but our Time and Talents. May be we can say 3 Ts. Time Talents and Treasure. May God bless you and richly use you for his glory. Look forward for more writeups. Yours in His service, Pastor Samuel Polumuri. India |

Good Morning Sue
This is great, Because when I first Join the Church in NY I had nothing but me so I gave my time to God I prayed God use me, for 5 years I ushered I volunteer in the clothing & food outreach for over 8 years, then I got a job but I still let God use me because I truly love what I was doing. Then He bless me. I had a bible study in my home for over 5 years Sue I love it. and I know that's why a lot of my blogs come with the questions and the answers because I want others to know God's word, I love it I like to teach. Ephesians 4:11 He is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ, He gave me this gift & I love sharing it. |

Sue, you always come with a solid word. I know that God uses each of us when we give the 3 Ts in His service (thanks Pasor Polumuri for that image). Thanks for the reminder it is not how much we give of any of the 3 Ts, but that we give with our whole heart! peace |

Great devotional Sue! You've certainly multiplied your talents here at MyChurch and with this message. :) This is a great way for me to start the week! |

| Sue, you have written some outstanding blogs, but this blog is probably my favorite. As a matter of fact, I am going to print it and put it in my sermon files to use some of the points you mentioned in a future sermon. Great job! |

| You blessed me today, Sue! |
