One moment. A simple moment. A moment when all the chaos of life suddenly falls away and you remember what it's all about. Later this week, my wife and I will celebrate our 11th anniversary. When we sit down for dinner on that night, with the kids at the grandparents, all the noise of the kids will be away, the responsibilities of life will be set aside - it will just be the two of us talking like we used to when we dated and were first in love.
The same kind of moment happened for me, in regards to ministry, yesterday afternoon. We held a baptism in Lake Erie after our worship service. As we stood in the chilly water I had "the moment." No worries about settling into our new building. No thoughts of maintenance duties. No burdens about whether or not to have food and drink in the sanctuary. In that moment, it was all about a new believer making a public declaration of his faith. It was obeying the Great Commission, plain and simple. It was beautiful. It was powerful. It was a moment I wish could have lasted forever. It was a moment that reminded us what church is all about. It was all for the praise and glory of Jesus!
28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.
