Jon Courson's Application Commentary set is one of my favorite study resources. These commentaries are taken from Jon Courson's sermons and include excellent academic information on the texts as well as great personal insights. It is great for an in-depth study, but it can also be used in casual reading. Her warm and personal teaching style shine through on every page. It is great to have the books on the shelf, but his verse-by-verse teachings can also be found at www.blueletterbible.org.
