Yes... you can lessen the messages in your e-mail:
In your Home page (not the profile) next to your picture, there is a somthing that looks like this:

Click settings .... next you will see this:

The societal ones should be unchecked if you want peace and quiet! Some I have to keep checked as the moderator, but some I don't need either! The blogger stuff in green, you absolutely don't need.

Another suggestion!
Leave the societal ones for your wife! I think she might enjoy it more than you -you old curmudgeon, you! LOL Have her get her own space... many of our wives are ;^)
Many free e-mail accounts are available online and I think they work okay BUT you have to log on to get the mail... which would defeat the purpose of the blog! I think... I've never used them. (help me out Yahoo users!) -you could set up a special account there... (NOT RECCOMENDED BY ME!)
