6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might.
6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
6:12 For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual `hosts' of wickedness in the heavenly `places'.
6:13 Wherefore take up the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand.
6:14 Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
6:15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
6:16 withal taking up the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil `one'.
6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
6:18 with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,
I was listening to a pastor talk about the fact that sometimes when he's giving a sermon he has to explain why following God's word is a good idea as opposed to 20 years ago when a preacher said that the word of God sais this or that it was just assumed that that was what we were following.
As we put on God's armor today the word of truth is critical as far as I can tell. often times we like to say that it doesn't fit our society, but but what kind of pristine society did Paul walk in in his trip amongst the Gentiles?
The bible is just as pertinent today as it was when it was written. If we view covenants like a contract to be broken as soon as it doesn't suit our purpose. I'm glad God doesn't view covenants the same way my ex-wife did. I'm glad Jesus didn't split the first time I stumbled. I think today's society is simply showing the strain of our hardened hearts.
I hope that every one who reads this will hit there knees and pray that our country come back to the word that we founded it on. I hope "In God We Trust" becomes more than a slogan on currency once again. Because without Gods word what do we have? Just a bunch of people wanting to do what's right in our own eyes. How can we find a plank in our own eyes without God's word?
I'm aloud to shoot out lot's of psycho babble at work (I work in an addictions house) but addiction is just a simptom of living life by "what's right in my own eyes" God's word give's me evidence that I can indeed trust the LORD.
I think a good paastime on oh say about noon Wednesday would be to pray that we, come back to the Word. Us as well as our brothers and Sisters.
What do ya think?
