| Life’s a test (I mean dance) you learn as you go. |
|
| |
Have you ever heard that song by John Micheal Montgomery, Life’s a Dance? The lyrics go something like this: Life’s a Dance, you learn as you go, sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow. Don’t worry about what you don’t know, life’s a dance you learn as you go
That sure is a lot packed into a couple of lines of a two stepping country song. It can either be a dance, or a test depending upon how you look at it, your perception.
Yesterday I was asked to post my testimony, so today I did before this blog. Somebody asked why I was the exception. Why I came out of what some people saw as hopeless. The way I see it I am not the exception, Jesus is. I actually had to look up that word, exception. It says: Freedom, discharge, release. He can take all that is broken and make it brand new.
See everything that happens is in God’s plan, it has a purpose. It is always a test, or a dance depending upon how you look at it. Whether it is something that is horrible that has happened to me or someone I love. How I react to something? Or how about this, How I look at another soul when they are broken or have committed a sin. I look at my life as a dance, kind of a dangerous metal thrash for a while there, but now it has slowed down a bit. Hopefully, over time with the love of Jesus, my life will turn into a waltz. In everything I am , I know I will be put to the test, I will get to dance a jig. Will I pass or will I fail? I don’t know, the only thing I know is if I follow God’s instruction book and have a little faith I may pass with a little less pain.
Zec 13:9 Then I will purify them and put them to the test, just as gold and silver are purified and tested. They will pray in my name, and I will answer them. I will say, "You are my people," and they will reply, "You, LORD, are our God!"

Jesus takes Becky's hand and says, "Ok, let's dance... relax, trust me and follow me...." Becky tries to follow but steps on Jesus feet. "I'm sorry Lord, pl ease forgive me." says, Becky. Jesus looks at Becky and says, "Not a problem, I understand it's gonna take a while for you to get in step, so let's try again.... one, two, three.... there you go, see Becky it's not so hard when you trust and follow me."
Becky I remember my first dancing lesson with Jesus, shameful, simply shameful. It took a long time for me to get with His rhythm.

Thanks Keith.
Pastor Aminata - When I read your comment I couldn't stop laughing. I mean it, I still can't stop. I was hystirically laughing out loud because see I can't dance to save my life. My husband and I tried to take lessons, and hopefully we will again soon. But it is a sad sad thing when you can't even do the electric slide without falling over. Just the vision of me dancing with Jesus is toooooo funny. See when I dance with my husband, I always try and take the lead. I can just see me trying to dance with Jesus, trying to take the lead and falling over him in his bare feet. Oh what a mess! Yes I would be shameful trying to literally dance with Jesus, but I am trying figuratively to learn more and more how to trust and obey.
Thanks Mike - I hope so too. |

Becky,
Girl, just let go and let God. Now I know this may sound a bit too simplistic, but truly it's the key to your growth. Look, I'm sure you will agree it ain't no panic being an adult, decisons, raising kids, being a spouse and the list goes on. Well, in Christ, here is the one place we don't have to be an adult. We can be a child. That's what God wants. We are His children.
Ok, so since we are His children, why not use a child's simple faith, a child's simple eyes of expectancy, a child's simple trust. Becky, ask your heavenly daddy for whatever it is you want, ask in a childlike faith, and watch God give it to you.
Now go get your favorite song, and when you are alone, I want you to pray and say, Jesus I want to dance with you. Becky, seriously, close your eyes, don't move unless and until you feel it's the Holy Spirit within moving you, and watch and see what happens. All it takes is faith!
Are you willing to do that?

As an avid dancer, I really like the imagery you use Becky. I've danced with some follows who are just awesome at following - they are like dancing on air. Just a gentle nudge and they step into the next move. They may stylize the move a bit, but not in a way that changes the move I'm leading. Other follows pull and push and don't respond to my lead. They throw in moves I'm not leading. My back always hurts after those dances! I hope I don't hurt Christ's back too much as I dance with Him! One of the things I do when someone is just learning to follow, is I ask them to dance with their eyes closed. It's amazing how much that changes things! Partner dancing is about trust and response. I've tried learning to follow in dancing and it's hard for me. I actually have to close my eyes, or I can't follow. |

So Yesterday, I did mentally dance with Jesus, if only in my mind. It was to the song by Mercy Me, "I can only imagine". And it was beautiful, it was peaceful, it was Love, His Love.
'Course it had to be only in my mind or an out of the body experience, cause this girl can't dance like I did in my mind.
Then last night I received some news that shook me up like a hurricane.
I felt like Peter when he started to sink after walking out in the water. The storm started to shake my boat and then I actually wondered why I didn't hear Jesus rebuke me, "Oh ye (Becky) of little faith". It was a rough night and it has been somewhat today rough today. Reflecting on this now, it was like I was back to dancing with Jesus to music from the Big Hair Band days. Augh.
Its taken lots of practice today. I mean the entire day has been a dress rehersal. Still trying to get back to the continual waltz with Him to the song of "I can only imagine" |

Hoo boy, if life's a dance, I'm in trouble because I have two left feet am as uncoordinated as they come. And wouldn't you know, I'm a musician...who ought to have a grip on rhythm, but that's another weakness I have. I blame it all on the pharisees who outlawed dancing in any way, shape or form while I was growing up. They even pooh-poohed SQUARE-DANCING. Now that I can do my own thing, my present church, First Baptist of Indian Rocks, Largo, FL (which is quite open-minded about lots of things) is only to the stage of accepting "joyful movement" but not outright dancing. Our choir director looks like she's dancing quite often. She's got rhythm down to her toenails. The closest thing I can do is attempt put emotional movement into my violin playing. Of course, my favorite pieces to play are fiddle tunes (dance tunes). I put 'em in arrangements with hymns so I can get away with playing them in church. Can't stand there like a statue and play...even TREES bend with the wind...and the Holy Spirit is like the wind, blowing us in the direction He wants us. So my adult beginner Praise Strings are trying to move a little when they play....and it really helps them sound more spontaneous and alive. Of course we are a long way from acting like the Celtic Women. My daughter is somewhat overweight but dancing to BeYOU, (a teen exercise dance video )is a cakewalk to her. A song that the choirboys used to sing at my old church (Coral Ridge Presbyterian in Ft. Lauderdale...where I also worked for 6 1/2 years) was "Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day"...all about Jesus singing from the womb of Mary.(Talk about imagination....contemporary British composer). Sandi Patti has a great song she sings "Imagine How God Can Sing!...Can Dance, moving gracefully up to our hearts to invite us to be intimate, and share in His joy." What a great song. One pastor I had actually encouraged his married couples at a Valentine Banquet to get up and slow dance together at one point....he was certainly enlightened! Taboos and guilt and self-consciousness die hard. Plus lack of skill tends to inhibit those of us raised to never dance. Then, last but not least, Bryan Duncan, in his youth rallies, has the Christian kids get up and dance to some of his songs....along with him. And that is good for a lot of laughs. We just aren't used to it! But we are now free to try. Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. <:))))>< Connie Radomski |

Birdie I only wish I could dance. Maybe with technology Jess could give both Louis and I virtual lessons.
Connie Yeah that is why I wrote this I HAVE two left feet and I don;t know my left from my right. I was a musician too scholarships in four instruments. Now I would love to attend a church that dances in the aisles... that would be cool
Thanks for stopping by ladies. |
