| Just Another Brick in the Wall |

I was listening to a message this week that had a bunch of interesting things to consider. The question "Are you doing God a favor by going to church?" was asked which was followed by "By sitting in the pew, do you think you are punching God's time clock?". I will be the first to admit. I'm a very visual person. I had never considered that visual before, but hearing it and then visualizing, it's very hard to deny that I've seen this. Even without speaking for others, there have been times I've seen it in my life. The thought progressed throughout the week in my own head. When we have a difficult question, what is our response? Do we assume someone knows the answer and that it's not important? Do we show up on Sunday and think, I'm glad the pastor knows the answer to that because it saves me a lot of looking (overtime)! And so on Friday morning another thought bubble popped into my head. This one was standing before our Lord and Maker. We desperately look around because we haven't been searching and seeking previously. And what are we searching for? Our pastors. We need the one (the interessor) who helped us to see Jesus each week. "Jesus, I'm not prepared! But I know someone who is!". I'm not beating on pastors, unless the pastor makes it clear it's his or her way or the highway. Nor do I want anyone in comments to beat on pastors. Because we are accountable before God. Not just our pastors. So check out sermons. Check out online resources. Make sure what you are hearing is accurate. Does it stand up against God's word? So don't show up on Sunday just to punch a time clock and put up another brick in the wall. |

Wow Norm. You put a lot of meat in just a few paragraphs. Good chewing this morning.
As for me, well, I am different (understatement of the year, I suppose). I enjoy worship so much that I, at times, wish we didn't have a sermon. That is my flesh getting in the way, though. So, I would say my attitude in that second half of the service can suffer at times. It isn't that the words our pastors share are not good - they are. It is my internal attitude towards God. It doesn't happen often, but once is probably too much.
Well, now that I have read this, it is time to go to church this morning. I best be prepared to be accountable...have a good attittude, have a good attittude... |

Voice...I understand what you're saying. I can be the same way sometimes. I think the problem begins when we think worship stops when we aren't singing any more. If anything it should just be getting started :-) Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
Good blog Norm. |

Good post good comments. I wish we had church happening more often, I really need to kick this fellowship thing in high gear. I could help thing of the Pink Floyd Brick in the Wall thing. Really Just being a part of Christ's church I miss the other parts before to long. I don't reckon a thumb would want to go to long without the rest of the hand. |

| I'm glad you couldn't help thinking of the Pink Floyd "The Wall". I was going for that thinking back to the days when I listened to them on a regular basis thinking I was so philosophical. It seems rather depressing now. :) |

Speakin of brick's
4-8Welcome to the living Stone, the source of life. The workmen took one look and threw it out; God set it in the place of honor. Present yourselves as building stones for the construction of a sanctuary vibrant with life, in which you'll serve as holy priests offering Christ-approved lives up to God. The Scriptures provide precedent:
Look! I'm setting a stone in Zion, a cornerstone in the place of honor. Whoever trusts in this stone as a foundation will never have cause to regret it. To you who trust him, he's a Stone to be proud of, but to those who refuse to trust him,
The stone the workmen threw out is now the chief foundation stone. For the untrusting it's .. . a stone to trip over, a boulder blocking the way. They trip and fall because they refuse to obey, just as predicted.
