| Digesting Philippians: What me Worry? |

4:6 Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 4:7 And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Paul goes on so say don't be anxious about anything. He's basically saying never be anxious, never worry. It's a command, not a suggestion. This is hard to digest. You mean worrying is never justified regardless of how bad the situation is, regardless of the circumstances. In Highschool I pretty much lived a life that was motivated entirely by worry. I worried about most every circumstance that came my way and made decisions based on trying to control the situation and reduce the fallout. Since then God has turned my life upside down and worry is no longer the foundation in my life. But I still worry some times. Yet Paul says worry should never be a choice for Christians. Instead we are told that we should pray. In every situation, regardless of the circumstances we should never resort to worrying, instead we should pray, even petition (continually pray), with a heart of thanksgiving, ready to recieve from God. When we do that, He promises to give us a peace in our heart that surpasses understanding. Peace, what we trully want, a peace regardless of the chaos that surround us, regardless of our circumstances. Worrying never brings this kind of peace, worrying only leads to more worrying, and ignoring a problem is foolishness. But praying, placing the circumstances before our Loving Heavenly Father, places the situation in His capable hands. He is more than enough to deal with anything that comes our way. He may not choose to change are circmstances as we often may pray for, but He will give us peace, and he will give us the resources (wisdom, strength, knowledge, etc..) we need at that moment, and we can rest in His peace, instead of panicing. I want to live this out, never worrying about difficult circumstances in life, but instead praying, and Trusting Him. This is another huge Truth that will take time to digest. |
