Here we see another staggering truth: The Lord of creation had (and still has) entrusted people to manifest in life, word, deed, and sign the coming of the kingdom of God. God could have chosen any number of various methods, He chose us.—Faith Action Study Bible The above comment was found under this passage of scripture . . . 10:1 And he called unto him his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of disease and all manner of sickness. 10:2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the `son' of Zebedee, and John his brother; 10:3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the `son' of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 10:4 Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and charged them, saying, Go not into `any' way of the Gentiles, and enter not into any city of the Samaritans: The disciples were just ordinary men that God used in an extraordinary way. Sometimes we get in the mindset that God can only use special people. But it is clear from His selection of disciples that God likes to use just plain, everyday people. What makes this so amazing is that He would entrust such an important task to people like us, but He doesn't make us go it alone. Note very carefully that God had a special purpose for each of His disciples and He spent time preparing them for that purpose. But it doesn't stop there, He also gave them the ability to do what they had to do in order to fulfill that purpose. It is humbling to realize that God would choose us to accomplish His most important mission, telling the world about His Son. What a priviledge to be called and used by God. I was visiting the nursing home a few days ago, the man I had come to visit was playing bingo in the dining hall. When I got there I was surprised to see a man from our church calling out the numbers for the residents. Emory Hinkle has a weekly ministry in our local nursing home and he has seen people saved. Emory is right where God wants him, doing what God wants. God knew these residents would need someone to love them and tell them about Jesus. Thank God He prepared Emory and sent him.
