I ran into this verse yesterday:
3:17 The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory; he will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in his love; he will exult over you with loud singing
It's pretty positive and uplifting to know that a warrior who gives me victory is in my midst! But, that's not what excited me about this verse. It's really cool that He will rejoice over me with gladness, but that's not what excited me about this verse. I treasure being renewed in His love, but, nope - that's not it either!
"He will exult over you with loud singing"! I know God talks, and he listens. He laughs and he cries. But, I never one time considered that He would sing! For some reason, my mind only invisioned angels singing - never God himself. When someone sings well, I think to myself "They have the voice of an angel".
But, think about how God sings. I don't know why, but now that I know He sings, for some reason, I think it would sound more beautiful than anything we've ever heard. I'll bet we have nothing to even compare it to. I'll bet our little sensory processing minds cannot even fully appreciate the sound of Him singing.
I'll bet He does a mean "Amazing Grace" on karaoke night! ; - ) |

| Is it just me, or does it feel odd that God might be singing praise songs to and about me? That seems to be what the verse says. |
|
|
| If He is singing praises about me, it'll be a short song... that's fer shure! |
|
|
Now you know if you saw yourself as God sees you it would be a l---o---n---g song. Think about how we love our kiddos. |
|
|
Rich, like there is any other tune?! Hehehe
Jess, it is amazing that he rejoices over us! It's kind of humbling in a way to realize that He loves us that much!
Inthelight, you're right! |

| How interesting! Never saw that before. I'm not even sure I want to speculate on this one, I am sure I could never do God justice! ~mike |

| I don't know how I missed this one. This here is great insight, Rosie. I hain't never seen that before. Pavarotti ain't got nothin on God! |

I think the verse means that God is rejoicing with singing, and he's rejoicing because He loves you and me. That is pretty amazing. And as you say, God's singing must be beautiful beyond all our comprehension. I think there's something in the Narnia books about Aslan singing or something at the start of the world. A wonderful picture. Blessings, Andy http://www.christianbits.co.uk |

| I love to sing, and l love beatiful singing. My simple mind can't fathom how wonderful God's own singing must be. Thank you for sharing this verse! |

| Hi Tiger! Thanks for the star. I look forward to the day when we will hear the beauty of His voice. |

If a well-groomed and well-fed parent had dirty, hungry, neglected children, think how shameful that would be. But happy healthy children cause people to think well of the parents. The children would bring glory to their parents because they reflect how good and loving the parent is to them. As we allow God to work in our lives and change us into better and healthier beings, we bring glory to Him because then people can see what a good and loving father He is. This verse says He is a protective (warrior), delighted, loving parent who exults over His children. What a great Dad! I wish I could hear Him sing! |

8:28 And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, `even' to them that are called according to `his' purpose.

Our God Sings! What Glorious Sounds the heavens ring! The angels dance around His Throne As He proclaims His own Mighty Works and Power
Our God Sings! What Glorious Sounds the heavens ring! The angels dance a dance of Greatness As God sings His Melody of Love to His Children.

Pastor Aminata, that is beautiful! What a vision - the angels dancing and God singing a melody of love to His children! I shall hold onto that thought in my heart until that day when I see and hear that for myself!
Cindy and Eclair, Amen! Thanks for your comments. |

We are HIS children... I sing a different song I wrote for each of my children when they were babies...
it makes me remember how much I love them now when they are less than adorable..if you know what I mean.
My dad used to sing his rendition of Danny boy whenever he saw me and he was tinkering,... funny too , because he would just repeat the words danny boy over and over without ever finishing the rest of the song..
We sing cutesy little songsto our children - why wouldn't He when please with us?
interesting verse! |

I can't believe I'd forgotten about this verse. We used to sing a song based on it. Anyone remember a late 70's praise song with a 50's Yadada, dadada, dadada, shaboom, shaboom. style to it? I never focused on God "joying over thee with singing" part. I always focused on the "The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is Mighty" part. A good verse to remember the next time we are feeling worthless, huh? I don't think God sings over worthless beings. Sadly though, many times His songs fall on my deaf ears! Kind of ties in to what PT is teaching in the current Prodigal Son series.. |

A great verse! I make greeting cards for my congregation (First Trinity Lutheran, Washington DC). I like to include a Bible verse and this one will be a great addition to those I already use. Thanks for pointing it out! |

| I read a book several years ago--The Singing God by Sam Storms from IHOP-KC. His paraphrase for this verse is the theme of the book: "The Lord your God is with you all the time. He is a powerful and mighty warrior who saves you. When he thinks of you He exults in festive pleasure and with great delight. At other times He becomes quiet as He reflects on His deep affection for you. He celebrates who you are with joyful singing." Quite a thought--the Creator celebrates the creation. May you hear His song over you with your whole mind, heart and strength--and from that place respond to His magnificent love. |

| Thank you SO much for your original post - and for all the follow up! I came into work today feeling, well...worthless...now my heart is filled with hope and knowledge!! The piece of scripture alone might not have sparked the turn around in my [resistant] head but the comments and additional insights of all the angels who commented really helped. Allelulia! |

|
| this is a very exciting verse, but is it really that much of a surprise that God sings? if you think about it we were created in God's image. We (most of us) have the ability to sing and are commanded throughout Scripture to sing. this is another one of God's ways of saying," my child, I love you and you are very special to me!" |
|

| Thanks for everyone's comments and stars. I love this verse and it keeps encouraging me as I think of God singing over me. |

| Not only does He do a great job on "Amazing Grace," but you should hear Him wail on "It Is No Secret." |
|
|
| I love the penquin. Yes I believe Jesus always had a prayer or song in his heart or else he would not be able to truly give us the love and hugs that we all need everyday. It says that a women needs 13 hugs a day. I see Jesus with all the gifts that he created. But the greatest one of all I see is Grace and Mercy. Jennifer |
