9:1 And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city.
9:2 And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, lying on his bed; and when Jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven."
9:3 And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, "This man is blaspheming."
9:4 But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts?
9:5 For which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise and walk'?
9:6 But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins" --he then said to the paralytic--"Rise, take up your bed and go home."
9:7 And he rose and went home.
9:8 When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
Have you ever wished somebody could do something about all the sickness and other afflictions in the world? What about God? What is he doing about all that's wrong in this world? When healing a paralyzed man, Jesus pronounces his sins forgiven. This shocked the religious establishment, who claimed that only God has the power to forgive sins. But that was precisely Jesus' point. He had that authority because he was God in the flesh. Why did Jesus not just pronounce his disease healed? Why did he also declare that his sins were also at that moment forgiven?
