| Where Are You? |
|
| |
3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they [were] naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where [art] thou? 3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I [was] naked; and I hid myself. 3:11 And he said, Who told thee that thou [wast] naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? 3:12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest [to be] with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 3:13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What [is] this [that] thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. Has it ever been a time that someone has called you, and the sound of their voice gave you the impression that they thought or knew you done something wrong? You shook with fear but never revealed where you were?
I’m sure all of us have this type of thing happen at one time or another, whether it was as kids or now, as an adult. It brings to memory the chipmunks: Alvin, Simon, Theodore? Those three cartoon characters whose manager was Dave? Remember how Dave would yell, "Allllvinnnnnnnnn?" And what about Dennis the Menace? Dennis would call Mr. Wilson, “Oh...Mister Willlsonn! Ohhh, Mister Willlsonnn!” Mr Wilson would always yell, "Dennissss!!!" God called Adam in the same way. He not only called him in this way, but he had some questions for him and his wife, in fact he asked four specific questions, questions he already knew the answer to.
Although the characters above were able to hide from the people who were calling them, Adam and Eve couldn't hide from an all-knowing, all-seeing God, yet he asked them anyway: 1. Where are you? 2. Who told you, you were naked? 3. What have you eaten? 4. What have you done?
So why did he call as if he couldn’t find? And why did he ask if he didn’t know?
I believe God did this to see if Adam and Eve knew where they were, spiritually. I also believe His tone showed that in order to forgive them they had to give an honest answer. If this is true, God is asking us the same thing today: Spiritually where are you?
Are you living in the Spirit and enjoying God? Or are you hiding behind the bushes? Who told you? Was it Jesus? Or did the Devil make you believe you didn't do anything? What have you eaten? Was it God's Word, or was it artificial? What have you done? Whatever it is I don’t need to know, it's not my place, but do you think God doesn't know?
It’s up to you to tell him the truth from your mouth. You don’t need to tell God what somebody else is doing. You need to answer to God and God alone.
Evaluate yourself, ask yourself these questions: Where am I? Who am I listening to? What am I eating? Who told me? If your answer doesn’t add up to the truth in God’s eyes, not man's, it's time to just be honest!

| Thanks Keith; having hidden in the bushes so long sometimes I wonder if I just hide out of habit. |

| Good stuff, Keith! Guess what? I have a blog with the same title, Where are you?, about the same scripture. Too funny! :-) I love what God has to say to Adam and Eve and, therefore, to us! |

| Jen, you and i are on the same page! Is that cool or what? |

Whoa. Two blogs with the exact same title, written on the same day? Could God be talking to me?? If so, I guess he really means it. It can't be good to make God repeat himself!
Thanks for being God's voice on here Keith! ~mike |
