| Understanding Revelation |

A lot of confusion that exists today within the Church seems to come from differing understandings of the Book of Revelation. I believe that a lot of this confusion could be avoided if we just believe what this book says about itself and its purpose for being written. It is a common practice when writing a book or an essay to start by stating your purpose or premise in the first sentence. God had John do this very thing if we would just trust Him instead of our carnal minds.
1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified [it] by his angel unto his servant John: The Greek word that is translated as 'revelation' is apokalupsis and means: disclosure, Now what does this book promise to disclose? The answer is right there, it is Jesus Christ. So we begin with the understanding that this is not a book sent by God to disclose the future or the antichrist or the devil or the beast or the harlot. It is the Revelation of Jesus Christ.
Now the next part says that this revelation was given to Him by God. Now some may ask "Why would Jesus need God to reveal Himself to Him". Philipians chapter 2 says that Jesus left His place in Heaven and took on the form of a man for the suffering of death. Part of this "emptying Himself" meant that He did not have omniscience as a man. We know that He was tempted in all ways as we are so that He could be touched with the feeling of our infirmaty when we are tempted and that He learned obedience by the things that He suffered. Omniscience cannot be tempted or learn anything in the process.
So Jesus had to learn from His Father who He was and what He came to do. In other words, God had to give Him the revelation of Jesus Christ. But we must remember that the Bible refers to Jesus as the Head and we are His Body. As the Head has gone so goes the Body and this reveals the purpose that God had for giving this important book to the Body of Christ. God revealed to Jesus who He was so that He could understand His purpose and so that He could Overcome the obstacles that were laid in His path by Satan to keep Him from completling His purpose. How much more do we need this same help so that we can Overcome as He has Overcome.
Thus, Jesus sent an angel to His servant John to reveal to us what had been revealed to Him by God about what it takes to Overcome in this life and fulfill our purpose in God. So why is this book so hard to understand? The first reason is that the Church for the most part has completely ignored what Jesus said this book was given to us to accomplish. The second reason is that it was 'signified' by this angel.
This simple means that this revelation was given in "sign language". In other words, it was given in symbolic language. So we need to not only understand WHY this book was given, but also HOW it was given.
For example, no Christian teachers believe that there is a literal Lamb sitting on a literal throne in Heaven. Neither do we believe there is a literal beast that comes out of a literal sea with seven literal heads and ten literal horns. Nor do most believe in giant locusts or four different colored horses who bring judgments upon a literal earth. So far so good. We know that these are just symbols.
Yet, many Revelation "experts" will try to convince us of two literal witnesses who will stand in front of a literal rebuilt Temple in the literal city of Jerusalem warning people of a literal Lake of Fire that burns forever and ever.
Go figure. |

Good word John
Yet, many Revelation "experts" will try to convince us of two literal witnesses who will stand in front of a literal rebuilt Temple in the literal city of Jerusalem warning people of a literal Lake of Fire that burns forever and ever.
Yeah these witnesses have to be the only ones that never died; for it is appointed once for man to die, so they must come back and die a natural death go figure, hence refuting/reinforcing this wrt to the rapture myth.
YES FOLK, There is no rapture the way you were taught. NO ESCAPE from this life but by the grave.
Or in other words, "You are all going to die"
This rapture/2nd coming was supposed to happen WW1, then WW2 then 1998, now 2007 (see you all here next year)
When will you give up believing the lies of satan? Thou shalt surely not die, remember that one?
Don't cling to the false belief of a magic escape, it ain't gonna happen. You were saved for a purpose, find that purpose in God.
Find out here where this rapture lie originated from (btw another RCC invented doctrine)
Also read Matthew Henry's comments on Revelation, he lived in the 18th century, look how he saw it, no chips, bar codes back then. He is not 100% but a lot closer than the "Left behind" freakazoid authors of today.
If you are saved, what is there to fear? Did Paul not look forward to his death? Are you fearful of death? Why?
There is a secret you know!
LIVE FOR TODAY, TOMORROW HAS IT'S OWN PROBLEMS

The more I read the Revelation as symbolic with comprehension, the more I'm excited by and delight in its innermost opened, all is revealed quality. No assertion that I'm its master, just an enjoyer. ---James |

My wife asked me recently what I think is the most important reason to believe in UR (Ultimate Reconciliation) as opposed to ET (eternal torment). I thought about defending God's honor, but realized He does not need me to do that as He will always stand despite His detractors. Then, I thought about qualifying as a judge of the nations cannot be possible without judging as He judges and that is part of it, but a little self-serving as opposed to God-serving or mankind-serving. Then, I considered how easy He is to love when you know how He loves, but I truely loved Him before I knew this about Him.
Finally, I thought how He has desired for us to be in His image and likeness for fellowship sake and the Bible reveals that we are transformed into the image that we see. We will only fulfill His purpose in our being like Him when we see Him as He is. The reason that so many ET Christians are so hateful and unforgiving is that they have been transformed into the image of the God that they see. We will never be perfected in Love until we truely see how He loves both unconditionally and eternally. I want to love like that so I have been allowed to see that He loves like that. Believing in a God who eternally torments His enemies stunts our spiritual growth. |

Interesting and correct start on the revelation about the book of Revelations. I will need to do more reserach on your middle statement ideas and conclusion. The revelation does have and use symbols and many of them have interpertations suggested by theologians who have studied this revelation code written by John. It is not that simple that is why many need a teacher, and why God called Preacher's. Let me get back to you all on this one
May the grace of God protect and keep you always. Pastorb |

Kratos said, "The reason that so many [eternal torment] Christians are so hateful and unforgiving is that they have been transformed into the image of the God that they see."
I immediately thought of Jonah sitting up on the hill happily waiting for God to destroy Nineveh. I've encountered too many who do the same with humanity, joyfully and securely walking around, knowing what awaits the unsaved.
In my own experience, salvation is about being saved from a life without love, a life without hope. And it is something that we begin to have when we finally reach that point where we let go of the things that are the most important to us.
Christ calls each one of us to love one another. Love is a verb, it's something we say and do. When we first take the time to experience the love of God, we can then reflect that love to everyone we encounter. This is how God uses us to transform others into a healthier image of God.
Using the death, destruction, and the fires of hell described in Revelation to poke and to prod people to God is using fear to manipulate people. And sitting there waiting for God's judgement to fall on people around us is to live a life without True Love and without Real Hope.
