Recently, I was driving with a friend to visit some folks from our church. She had a navigation system in her car and for the first time I got to see how one of these things worked! We typed in the address and a calming voice proceeded to tell us our first step. I kept looking for a list of all the turns we would be making through the course of our trip, but there wasn’t one. We were solely to trust that the voice would tell give us the tenth of a mile or so warning that we were to turn. That bugged me. See, I like to see the whole picture first, then proceed step by step. This weekend at a women’s conference, I was challenged that I need to cross the Jordan and not know any direction other than going straight. God has been heavily leading me in a direction that seems so crazy for me to fathom. As a result, I have resembled the Israelites who wandered in the wilderness for 38 years. Our feature speaker challenged us to be obedient IMMEDIATELY and obedient FEARLESSLY as we head in the direction of God’s calling, just as Joshua was as he led the 2 million people across the Jordan. IMMEDIATELY: It has only been less than 48 hours and I have already tried to rationalize away God’s clear direction as my own emotion. Do I truly believe that God is who He says He is and will clear the way for me to do his bidding? If we don’t do things immediately, we tend to talk ourselves out of it! FEARLESSLY: Things are crazy, yet strangely comfortable right now in my life. Stepping out in faith is a scary thing. Yet, how awesome that God has promised never to leave me nor forsake me (Joshua 1:5). So, while I have no idea what lies ahead, I am preparing for the rain to come by taking steps to give up what God has told me to give up. I am in a training of sorts to help me be prepared for the adventure that awaits. How funny that the material I use to teach children’s church this passed week centered on James 1:5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” Father, I seek your wisdom for the next step. Thanks for loving me enough to provide it liberally and not be stingy! Thank you for allowing me to be on this journey with you! By the way, my friend’s navigation system led us to a dead end. How grateful I am that God’s navigation system will only lead to abundant living!! |
