What if His People Prayed?
What if the armies of the Lord Picked up and dusted off their swords Vowed to set the captive free And not let satan have one more
What if the Church, for heaven's sake Finally stepped up to the plate Took a stand upon God's promise And stormed hell's rusty gates
What if His people prayed And those who bear His name Would humbly seek His face, yeah And turn from their old ways
And what would happen if we prayed For those raised up to lead the way Then maybe kids in school could pray And unborn children see light of day
What if the life that we pursue Came from a hunger for the truth What if the family turned to Jesus Stopped asking Oprah what to do
What if His people prayed And those who bear His name Would humbly seek His face yeah And turn from their own way
He said that He would hear His promise has been made He'll answer loud and clear, yeah If only we would pray
If My people call by My name If they'll humble themselves and pray If My people call by My name If they'll humble themselves and pray
What if His people prayed And those who bear His name Would humbly seek His face, yeah And turn from their old ways He said that He would hear His promise has been made He'll answer loud and clear yeaah If only we would pray
I'm reading a book written by Mark Hall. It's called Lifestories. Mark Hall explains some of the thoughts he was having while writing some of his songs, and this song means something completely different than it did fifteen minutes ago.
Imagine a 16-year-old girl walking up the sidewalk. The biggest decision she's ever made. As she's walking, she hears a group of fifty people yelling... "MURDERER!" She continues walking, ashamed, feeling worse than before. She walks in the door, not looking back, that sight was just another peek into this Christianity she had heard about. There was no love, only condemnation.
Whose fault is this? The government for making it an easy task? The girls fault? No. The truth is, she is making a horrible decision, an abomination even. But how is condemning the girl helping?
How about taking a look into the past? How many Christian friends DIDN'T tell her about Jesus? How many churches did she walk into and was IGNORED? How many people didn't have an opinion or care about her life until she made this wrong choice? How is this the time to speak up?
But it goes further than that. You can say "I didn't know her, it wasn't MY responsibility." Oh, how wrong you are! Everywhere you turn, "The government does this, schools do that." I just wanna tell them to can it!
Of course the world is lost! That's why actions that are 'worldly' are wrong! But is it all their fault? What if it's us?
7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Look to God! Look at His promises! Look at what will happen! If we humble ourselves and pray! Look to God! Repent! God will hear our prayer, forgive us, and heal our nation!
Maybe it's us, and we just need to get back on track, and trade in this ME time for some KNEE time. |
