Proverbs 3:5-6 says to Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge God and He will Guide your way.
You might be encouraged by the media to invest in property, life insurance, health insurance, car insurance, rental properties, college degrees, and career opportunities, but the only for sure insurance is death. The problem with all of these worldy insurance policies is that none of them can prevent the biggest liability that we have.
I am currently in the process of eliminating all of my personal financial debt. I'm only 21 years old, I don't have a college degree, and I don't have a career path. I've worked part-time and seasonal since I was 15 years old. I play drums at my church, I teach Sunday School, I am an ordained Junior Deacon, I am a musician of God (music producer, recording engineer, recording artist, etc.), and I am a missionary. I just changed my work status to full-time at Disney. If I continue to work hard at work and abstain from expensive purchasing, all of my debt will be paid by February 2007 when I turn 22. Mind you that I still live at home with parents and I don't have a girlfriend/wife.
But the point to the paragraph above is that I'm an uneducated man yet God has not forgotten me (Oh and by the way, I'm also a trainer at Disney too). I put my trust in the Lord way back when I was young. And at many times I had/have to ignore what "grown ups" tell me to do.
God showed me a new life in Christ. If I simply keep his commandments, I receive new life in Christ. I am not the enforcer of the Law of Moses. I only follow the law.
If you follow God's commandments, you will have no enemies and nothing can stand against the God you serve (2 Chronicles 17:10 And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehosh'aphat).
Jesus told us that the greatest two commandments were to love the Lord you God and to love your neighbor as you love yourself (Mathew 22:34-40). So it should be easy to obey the Lord's commands. As a matter of fact, we should find that Trust in the Lord will not only please our spirit but it will also please our flesh.
If people did not blame others for their own mistakes, lie in court, work half-heartedly, pursue greed, envy, commit blasphemy, commit adultery, steal, kill, and all other forms of wickedness there would be no need for life insurance, health insurance, car insurance, house insurance, job insurance, college degrees, or any other stupid pieces of paper that decay under pressure.
It's already too late now for us to reconcile the mistake and rid of worldly insurance. Wickedness has already inhabited America. Our situation is similar to the Israelites when Moses gave them laws of divorce. Divorce is still a sin unto God, but because the Israelites had hard hearts, he allowed them to divorce. They desecrated the bond between man, woman, and God.
Remember, God always punishes foolishness. Take a look at Asa king of Judah. He went to battle against the ethiopians who had many chariots and warriors, yet he won because the Lord was with him. Later when Ba-'asha king of Israel came up against Judah, Asa called on Ben-ha'dad king of Syria to help. He brought silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the Lord and of the king's house and sent to Ba-'asha. Hana'ni the seer then came to Asa and rebuked him. Asa did not rely on the Lord and acted foolishly; therefore from henceforth he would be at war.
And in Asa's 39th year as king, he became diseased in his feet until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians.
(You can read all of this in 2 Chronicles 16)
Trust in man, will only leave us six feet under. And once again, I'm not saying that we cannot trust man to take care of our needs. If we put trust in God, God can use man to take care of our needs.
I prayed to God asking for financial help. I have no usable skills or experience that would help me get a good paying job. God answered my prayer and did the impossible. I still work at the same "minimum wage" job, but now I'm full-time and God has given me favor amongst my managers. I don't have a degree, yet my area manager thinks highly of me and expects great things of me. I am blessed by the Lord. And because I don't have college loans to pay back, when I am debt free, I can start saving money and helping my parents pay off debt. And when this happens, God's promise will be self evident to all those who doubted in my judgement which is based on my Trust in God.
Rember this about eathly treasures.
6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
And read Psalms 49 to learn more about Trust in the Lord.
49:1 + 49:2 \49:1\ Hear this, all [ye] people; give ear, all [ye] inhabitants of the world: 49:3 \49:2\Both low and high, rich and poor, together. 49:4 \49:3\My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart [shall be] of understanding. 49:5 \49:4\I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp. 49:6 \49:5\Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, [when] the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about? 49:7 \49:6\They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; 49:8 \49:7\None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: 49:9 \49:8\(For the redemption of their soul [is] precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) 49:10 \49:9\That he should still live for ever, [and] not see corruption. 49:11 \49:10\For he seeth [that] wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. 49:12 \49:11\Their inward thought [is, that] their houses [shall continue] for ever, [and] their dwelling places to all generations; they call [their] lands after their own names. 49:13 \49:12\Nevertheless man [being] in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts [that] perish. 49:14 \49:13\This their way [is] their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah. 49:15 \49:14\Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling. 49:16 \49:15\But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah. 49:17 \49:16\Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; 49:18 \49:17\For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him. 49:19 \49:18\Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and [men] will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself. 49:20 \49:19\He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
