Remember the sea monkeys you had as a kid? It's ok to admit you had them and believed they were real sea monkeys! We all did! Now just go back in time, to your first pack! There was no preparation. Just add the magical water treatment. Add the sea monkeys eggs, stir, and instantaneously, your tank is filled with swiming specks. You really can't see them, but you just KNOW they are there. Everyday there are even more. You keep feeding them, and in a few days (or weeks) you start to see your sea monkeys. Everyone says they are brine shrimp. But you bought the package of sea monkeys, and you just KNOW that's what you have. Then one day, almost all of them are gone. You wait, hoping, and a few days later, see more sea monkeys. But no matter what, you just can't kill them all. Well, Jesus is just like Sea Monkeys!! You visit a church or other event, hear about Jesus, and it sounds like what you want, so you accept Jesus. There is no preparation, just say the words, "Jesus, come into my heart". Now, you feel something telling you that Jesus is real, so you keep believing. Just like the newborn sea monkeys, you can't see Jesus or see him working. Yet. You slip up and make a horrible mistake! God must hate you. But, just like the reappearance of the sea monkeys, Jesus forgives you and is still there. You still can't see him. But you just knew the sea monekys were real, right? And now, you have that same feeling about Jesus. You just Know that HE is real! Everyday, you are a new creature, no matter the mistake you made yesterday. Everyday, you learn more about Jesus, making HIM even more real. And everyday, He reveals a bit more about himself. Just like having more sea monkeys everyday.
Others will try to tell you that there is no such thing as Jesus. But, you just know they are wrong. UNLIKE the sea monkeys (which really are brine shrimp), Jesus is just as you read in the Bible... He is real. His love is eternal. His grace is immeasurable. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
So, Jesus and the Sea Monkeys - what a metaphor! |
