Amen  - we don't have a "fish fry"   - we have a fish party!   Oh, I love being around sinners --- that is where the thrill is  - My husband does deep sea fishing - and freshwater - he loves it -- he invests in it --- it is a joy to him -- once it took him 1hr. to pull a fish in.   It was worth it to him --- sinners are with the investment and the fight - Glad someone obeyed Jesus and "fished" me out!~

Hello dear Pastor Aminata. God bless you.

Your post reminded me of this dear passage of Scripture in John 21, and what I learned from it.

The disciples had gone fishing. They had been up all night trying to catch something. All they got was a sore back :-) But then Our Lord comes, they see HIm, and Peter jumps out of the boat and rushes to shore where Jesus was. And here comes the eye-opener (at least for me):

21:8 But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off.

The other disciples -in the boat- were dragging the net full of fish. I picture them doing a good effort to drag those fish.

And here comes brother Peter:
21:11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three of them; and although there were so many, the net was not torn.

I notice that Peter, all by himself, went aboard to haul the net ashore. And he, alone, was able to carry the weight. The other disciples together were not able to do so. But Peter, alone, did it. Why?

The Lord had told Peter "you will be a fisher of men" (Luke 5:10). And Peter went for the fish. And The Lord gave him the strength to carry all those fish (Philippians 4:13).

So if we are to bring the fish in, we are to go in God's calling (and we were called!) and in God's power (Rom 1:16 "the gospel is the power of God for salvation" and Phi 4:13). But we are to go.

And the catch will be great!

God bless you!

Mrs. W - ain't it a thrill indeed.  Just like it's a joy for your husband, it a joy for our Father, when we catch fish and bring them to his house so He can do the cleaning.  We should have more fish parties in our churches today!

Bro Elmer - Thanks for adding that part, excellent.  Yes, like Peter if only we would go for the fish, and will give each of us the strength to bear the weight, and truly our catch will be great.  God bless you.

What wonderful excitement i got from this! As i started my prayer and praise ministry last year, i wondered who would hear me and my messege, who would understand it for what it is, a powerful witness to the Goodness of the Lord! I have been blessed to have my prayers answered and to have found fellow saints that uphold the same attributes! Praise the Lord! I used to go fishing with my father, that was one of the many things we had in common. My siblings, 2 boys and 2 girls, never wanted to go fishing. Growing up, he was my hero. When he passed away in 1981, i stopped fishing.  In 1996, i went on a fishing trip with my grandson. It rekindled my passion for fishing. Today, i fish all the time, even when i don';t realize it!  The LOrd always brings someone into my life that needs and wants to hear the Messege of the True and Living Christ and i am always ready to give my testimony and the Word! Thank you for this fish story!

Yes Pastor we need to be more focused towards making disciples. Jesus never said to make more Christians. We have enough carnal believers that can fill pews but are not willing to be an active part of the body. Disciples on the other hand are the workhorses of the body and they are not afraid of getting their hands dirty and are always willing to sow seed and contribute and give of their time. Don't get me wrong, having a lot of people in a church is wonderful, but a church full of disciples would be a powerful church and would not only impact the community but would impact far beyond the reach of the church. Imagine 3 churches full of disciples in one city. Shalom

A couple of things that have been brought to my attention concerning fishing.

1. When you lower you nets to go fishing, you never know what kind of fish you are goona get. Jesus said to lower your nets. He never said what kind of fish He would give you.

2. When you take a fish out of it natural environment, water to dry land, they dont respond well. They flip flop around on the ground, and will die eventually. What is our environment to be & how can this example be used in our lives? For me, I need to stay in the word, stick to my gut feelings about things, & create an atmosphere of worship. I am not a professor, a bible scholar, or a Theologian. So, I will stick to what I know, so I wont be flip flopp'n all around on the ground for everyone to see.

Sorry, you said fishing...and fishings been on my heart. Hope I added to your blog and didnt distract.

This moring at bible study I was telling my Dad and my Mom about this fish blog.... my daddy was so tickled and he just started grinning....  How blessed am I to have the priviledge to teach my mother and father?   Glory to The Most High God!

Evangelist - God bless you, and I'll see you over at the soulwinners group.

MaKelly - May you always hunger and thrist after His righteousness, and can't nothing fry fish like the Holy Ghost oil!

Rich - see if you can find that song for me, I'd love to hear it.  Pastor Ken says to tell you "man you're too much!"

Terry- You are sooooooo welcome.

Lupe's W. - God bless you sister,  (don't tell nobody but I'm not writing this stuff, cause I hate to write.... it's gotta be the Holy Spirit).

Sonji - I'm laughing because looking at Shadae's picture is so appropriate... this is how the Lord sees you.... like you see Shadae.     Keep growing in Grace.

Mike - thank you for the compliment but God get all this Glory.  Nope still don't like to write, so it must be the Holy Spirit.  You along with everyone on MyChurch are a blessing to us as well.   God bless you.

Pastor Tim - Teamwork!  I love it!

KingdomC - Jesus must have known there was something about fishing...  who would think one could get so excited over smelly fish.... Praise God!

Prophet J- you caught the vision, could you imagine what it would be like today if we got back to "disciple making"   instead what we see are a lot of groupies....  wearing Sunday-go-to-meetin-clothes.

Deb - Smooches!   God bless you.

Shannon -  In the ocean there are hundred upon hundreds of different types of fish.  When one goes fishing you don't know what you're going to catch....  you just hope and pray that you catch something.  It's the same with us.   First you must be taught how to fish.  That comes from studying God's Word and hopefully through the leadership of your Pastor.

When you take a fish out of it natural environment, water to dry land, they dont respond well.
Here you are absolutely right, when a person is first taken out of their natural environment, (sin) they don't respond well, they usally try to get back to the water... (world of sin).

They flip flop around on the ground, and will die eventually. What is our environment to be & how can this example be used in our lives?   Again, Shannon dear, this is exactly what Jesus intended to happen.  He wants us to die to self so that we may live and have eternal life through Him.  Our new environment is to be "a new creature in Christ Jesus",  you see Shannon each of us are nothing more than smelly fish, that have been covered by His Grace.  We are saved by His Grace, yet we are still fish.  Now,  who better to relate to other fishes, than  a fish who is now a new creature in Christ?  You're responsibility as a new fish is to go tell the other fish that yes, you can live on dry land.... but you must be born again.   I'm so glad that fishing has been on your heart.   Could be that God is up to something...

I had a drug dealer I knew personal look in my face and run from me my leader said what he saw was not the Cynthia he knew and did not want any part of it. 5:1 Now it came to pass, while the multitude pressed upon him and heard the word of God, that he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret; 5:2 and he saw two boats standing by the lake: but the fishermen had gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 5:3 And he entered into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the multitudes out of the boat. 5:4 And when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5:5 And Simon answered and said, Master, we toiled all night, and took nothing: but at thy word I will let down the nets. 5:6 And when they had done this, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes; and their nets were breaking; 5:7 and they beckoned unto their partners in the other boat, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 5:8 But Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 5:9 For he was amazed, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken; 5:10 and so were also James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. 5:11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left all, and followed him.

Thanks this is an awsome post.  The only reason that addes this quote.  Is that when Jesus aproached Peter and Andrew, they were cleaning there nets after not catching anything all night.  If we are to be fishers of people then we are gonna have to clean our nets probably regularly.

This is where I start to get lazy.
10:25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting `one another'; and so much the more, as ye see the day drawing nigh.

This is gonna take all of us.  I personally know if I go more than a couple of days without fellowship of fellow believers I'm starting to get on shaky ground.

Thanks Pastor Aminata

I think this is gonna take all of us.

MaKelly - you are so right there are sharks in the water, and let me add barricudas in the pew! However, we are not to be afraid,  2Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

God Bless you God's Chosen, I'm sure you have a few fish stories of your own.

Dave - You are absolutely right, we must clean our nets by the Word of God daily.   When we do, we are sure to get a good catch!

MulletPreacher- Good to know the story blessed you, especially since you're a fisherman and all.
