Stacey G: I am so sorry that your comment got lost in my sauce.  Random neurons firing out of sequence, I guess.  Anyway, I'm so glad you were blessed by this.

Brother, I  somehow missed this when you posted it, I love your passiona and explanation. If you've read much of my stuff, over time, you'll see that I came to the prophetic/aposolic through the Jesus People movement, and then a group called the "Body of Christ"/New Covenant Apolstolic Order (1970's and early 80's), and then wathced as many of these men and women miograted into the Orthodox Church of America. This was a move I was not able to make, for a variety of reasons. Anyway, in the process I was exposed to the 2000 years of life that is the Orthodox Church. That was all said to add one more note to your idea of the prophetic. In every time period in the history of the Church their have been people who were openly prophetic, I am reminded of St. Macarious in the 3rd century who had people line up by the mile to ask for a word from God, St. Nicholas who was installed as deacon/elder/Bishop via a prophetic word, St. Seraphom of Serov who often gave prophetic words, and recently Father John of Kronstadt. These men, and I can also tell you of many women, were openly prophetic, in fact, I love it that many of the stories around Nicholas had to do with the prophetic. Also, one of my pet peeves in viewing a theological principle has to do with Vincent of Lerin's rule of "scripture, universality and consent". The prophetic fills all those principles and has a great foundation in the history of the Church. Great blog, and done with a loving gentle heart.

Dennis--Excellent point.  Isn't it amazing how popular overviews of church history have been editted to accomadate the tastes and theological prejudices of the modern age?  Thank you for the read, and the kind words.  Big blessings.--d

Birdie--Ya make me blush, sis.  Thank you so much and I'm glad you were blessed.  Love and Let the Wind Blow.  --d

Dr. Thomas and Nick & Lori--Thank you so much for the words of encouragement.  Blessings to you all as well!

Shannon--Thanks for the comments.  I agree.  Prophecy is a real and vital ministry in the church for today, and as such, the enemy would take every opportunity to sow division through imbalance and error.  We do need discernment, and the ministry of mature men and women of God who are moving in the prophetic gifts.  I am quite familiar with Dr Bill Hamon's writings.  The books are on the shelf right above my monitor.  I appreciate the brother's ministry and influence a lot.  Wise and balanced.  Bill Johnson from CI has ministered here in GR on numerous occasions as well, and he's a blast!  Power of God plus gentle heart and spirit.  Beautiful combination.  I love it when prophetic folks just keep it real!

There are way too many circus tents up today. Way too many CD's being sold in the name of holiness. When the outcome is the same, money!!
