Having been closely and safely tucked under the wings of an attentive and diligent Shepherd for 12 years, I can only offer this: I'd hate to see where I'd be and who I might be, if I'd been anywhere else. :)
That was God's plan, not mine. I think if you run toward God's solution with all your might, it will smack you in the face before you have time to blink--much less digress from it. Just my two cents, Dave.

I mean, if you look at what you ran toward with all your might b.c., (before Christ) what can you possibly lose by running with the same effort toward the things of God? To me, that's just simple logic. Good plan, bad plan...hmmmm....If I run toword the Good God plan as hard and fast as I ran toward the Bad No God Plan, I can expect no less than equal results for equal effort, right? But the truth is, I can expect MORE than equal results, because His word says I can.

Run, Dave, Run!

Your thirst is directing you to that living water, you are now panting after it, keep on panting and you will find the water! Dave i am so happy to see you striving to become what the Lord wants you to become. i am always here for you! And i think you are headed in the right direction, but like sue's Blog says keep looking at the Gps!

Yes Dave, your thirst was misdirected before. Now, can an addiction to God really be a bad thing?

And I'd whole-heartedly agree with this... "tagging along with more mature believers is pretty important" ...not to be legalistic, but a desire to hang out with mature believers in order to pick up or reinforce good habits is definitely as good, beneficial, acceptable, and laudable as developing those habits on one's own. After all, BOTH require intentional effort to please God, right?

Hey Dave,
God indeed has planted a deep thirst in our souls and we do well to let Him fill that desire.

You wrote 'One of the favorite attacks of the enemy in my case is "Who are you gonna attrract to Christ." followed by a rundown of all my flaws' .  I was just thinking, it is a good thing that we are not charged with attracting people to Christ, that is the Holy Spirit's job and he can use us no matter what our flaws are, when we seek to serve God in Christ!  It is obvious to me through your writing that your heart is truly seeking to serve our great God, so fear not He will use you to attract people as he changes you into a new creation!
peace my friend

Breath prayers...  your memorization of scripture.  It is so helpful.  I have an anxious heart, and something came to me during prayer.  I wrote down immediately and keep it by my computer.

The peace of the Lord restores my soul

We all have things to battle because we are human.  Not one of us is without sin.

23:1 Jehovah is my shepherd; I shall not want. 23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside still waters. 23:3 He restoreth my soul: He guideth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 23:4 Yea, thou I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. 23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou hast anointed my head with oil; My cup runneth over.

He restores my soul and leads me down paths of rightiousness for his names sake.  now there's a breath prayer for ya.  OK maybe two or thre breaths but it's worth it.
