I missed church yesterday. I mean, I really MISSED it! The fellowship, you know! When I am not in communion or fellowship with other believers, I really start to feel - well, lonely isn't the right word for it - but just - left out, I guess. Its like I've missed a meal or something. Spiritual feeding.
I've got a cold - probably the same one the girls have been fighting all week. I thought I'd avoided it by washing hands, loading up on Vitamin C, fresh air, etc. But no! Saturday night I felt it creeping on and Sunday morning it hit full force with sneezing, watery eyes, and the dreaded runny nose. Gross, right? I have a point.
Today (Monday) is my housecleaning/laundry day. Ideally, you know. I have this thing with laundry, you see - to stay ahead of it at all costs. Can't let anything slow me down from that. WE MUST conquer the laundry!! So I got up, sniffly, stuffy, achy - fed the 'big girl', nursed the baby, gout out my Bible. I started to read one of my favorite verses:
Galatians 3:1a (NIV) You foolish Galatians!
That always portrays Paul's humanity to me. Imagine him, dictating to a scribe (right, scholars? this part anyways?), and taking a deep breath, then grabbing the hair at his temples and shaking his head. Then he rubs his eyes with his palms, sighs, and continues... This doesn't have anything to do with the subject of this blog, but I thought I'd share that with you :-)
I continued on and was ministered to by reading most of the rest of the chapter and tried to re-memorize "But the fruit of the spirit is...." a good yardstick when I feel out of sorts. Or miss church - getting teaching directly from the Word.
SOoooo, in my prayer time - the big girl was getting restless and the baby was sleeping by now - I prayed, among other things for God to please, please, please, PLEASE, take my cold away. Surely He knows that I am miserable. I don't want to face the laundry with aching sinuses. And you know what? That's when it hit me. At least I'm not in the dessert. Or in a dry region. With no access to pseudeoephedrine (with or without showing a driver's license)! I bet Jesus had colds. Certainly! He didn't have Day-Quil, either! He was human, as human can be. He suffered the same way we do and certainly, CERTAINLY, he knows about rhinoviruses! Do you think he suffered from colds and everyday ailments? Do you think he got rocks in his sandals or stubbed his toe when he was walking "off road" at night? I am not, not, not being disrespectful, but rather so grateful that He was made human so that he could relate to us and we could KNOW that he relates to us.
Well, God chose not to heal my cold, but rather to reveal to me that He understands me, cares for me, and loves me. I have my stash of cold medicine and Tylenol and I'll get through this cold and the other 6 to 8 I guess I'll catch this year with small kids in the house. My fellow church members can thank me for not spreading this contagion among them and staying close to home yesterday!

| Well, I also have your cold, and am just now starting to feel better, so hang in there, it eventually dissipates! Thanks for the great blog despite your feeling under the weather. Also, thanks for missing being at church. That's a great statement! A lot of Christians don't feel that way, and we all should when we miss. We look forward to seeing you and your family next week. So glad you are all part of our church family. God bless, and get better soon! |
