| Warfare on the Highway --- Becky's driving watch out! |
|
| |
I was driving home the other day and I hit the median, you know, the big curb in the middle of the road. ARGH!
I am thinking great a flat tire is to come, should I try to change it or call my hubby. Then I am thinking, great there goes another hubcap. See I am the Queen of Hubcaps. I can't even count how many I have lost, and no, it wasn't from parking in the bad side of town. My husband got so tired of replacing hubcaps he actually replaced all my rims on my old Corolla to where I wouldn't need any hubcaps anymore, he said "the future savings outweighed the current cost of the expensive rims" Ha, little did he know I could actually bend rims too. HA. My dad, before I married my husband, got so tired of seeing me come home from KC to Dodge City Kansas hubcap-less that he actually kept a supply on hand for the visit. What is it with men and cars anyway? Ha I don't know.
Well anyway I start thinking maybe my husband won't notice. Maybe I will I be able to hide this one. Then I drive a few more miles and yes no flat tire, maybe I am good. Then I get home and check the front driver's side and yes, its there. I have a hubcap! I feel safe knowing that only me and God know of my little mishap, then I see the smudge on the tire. Crud, now I know I am busted because this is a big one, this one is deep, white, and my tire now looks like it is 1/4 white wall. It is so noticeable.
Well wouldn't you know it, the first time we walk out of the house together he sees it, busted! So he asks me the inevitable, "What is it with you and curbs?"
So I smile at him and say, "Well honey I really don't know what happened or continues to happen to me but, I was just driving along fine on the highway and then all of a sudden there was this house. At this house they had the most beautiful landscaping I had ever seen and so I kept my eye on that house and not the road. Before I knew it this median jumped out and hit the car. Sorry."
What can he say to that? He loves me, he is such a good man.
You know this is so true not only on Highway 55 heading east off Hwy 1 in North Carolina, but in my Highway travel of life towards heaven. I experience warfare on my Highway of life, and if I don't keep my eye on HIM I am going to wreck.
12:2 Having our eyes fixed on Jesus, the guide and end of our faith, who went through the pains of the cross, not caring for the shame, because of the joy which was before him, and who has now taken his place at the right hand of God's seat of power.
See a few weeks ago I am cruising along my highway of the Christian life enjoying the scenery and experiencing pure Joy in the Lord. I was savoring and soaking up every beautiful word I hear or read of God's Word, and then BAM.... I took my eye off of HIM in that current moment of that current day... and BAM...another median called "Satan" hit me, and oh he hit me so hard. Shoot it wasn't really a median that I hit that time but more like a long tunnel wall, like those you would see in the passes in the Rockies.
Satan hit me with spiritual warfare of the mind and it was real, and it was painful. I slipped into a deep depression for the last few weeks, and it has had an effect on my entire family as I have tried, no actually did proceed to sleep the entire weekend every weekend for the last month. See, I have been holding on to this one sin, not able to forgive myself for it for a long time. Long time is more like years, decades, shoot a quarter of a century. Satan knew that and tortured me with that for years, decades, almost a quarter of a century. Now I am at a point in my life where I need to accept Gods forgiveness for that one sin, and proceed to forgive myself for this one sin and move on and REALLY Live in the Joy of Jesus.
Anyway I was cruising along in my deep depression, thinking nobody would notice. But they did. Finally, I broke down and told my husband last weekend, which broke the stronghold Satan had on me. Then I was free, free to cruise back out on the Highway and talk to others about it, and get some real help instead of staying in my own mind. Then some very dear friends, teachers, pastors, and my dear husband have helped me turn my eyes back on Jesus, where they need to be at this moment on this day and every day after. They listened to the Holy Spirit, and my eyes were opened again, Jesus restored my sight. Oh how glorious it is!
Once more Jesus put his hands on the man's eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.
Mark 8:25 NIV
Praise be to God!

Becky, thanks for sharing this. What a great devotion for the morning. It is so easy for us to be distracted and so hard to understand His forgiveness. It is something we need to learn and relearn over and over.
One additional thought here...what a beautiful picture of marriage. Your husband was the first you turned to. I pray I can be there for my wife in the same way. |
|
|
| Becky, I can save myself some typing and just second voice's comment above. This was a great one, thank you! Oh, and I'm sure you know this intellectually, but I pray that deep down in your heart you'll always be convinced that you are free! ~mike |

| What an awesome blog! The analogy is perfect. Maybe next time you hit a curb you should "let Jesus take the wheeel". He can drive anywhere with his eyes closed! |
|
|
Great analogy! But you really are a terrible driver and should own that . Blaming men ,...your dad then your husband ,..shameful,...but funny ,..
Never-the-less , great stuff ! Now no more looking at houses and keep your eye on the road before my car "jumps out and hits you." |

| Becky, that is such a great word picture. I can completely identify with. Those curbs, medians, mailboxes, just seem to come out of nowhere, while driving & in my walk with God.Eyes off God, even for a second,& crash. It's hard to grasp that if we will confess that 1 sin, that 1sin that keeps us in bondage that it's strong hold is broken.Praise God that you are free now. Thanks 4 sharing. |

Becky, Somehow, I think we are kindred spirits. Your writing touched my soul. And you are so unselfconsciously transparent about your failings that I (and others, obviously) sympathize and identify completely with what you went through. God can really use your writing talent...I've loved reading all your comments here and there. It makes me so happy that you want to be my friend because I admire you very much. God's richest blessings on you, your husband and family and church, <:))))>< Connie Radomski |
