We have all been confronted at one point with a person or persons in our life who tries to convince us that the bible is full of errors and therefore can not be trusted. I myself for a time doubted the validity of God’s written word, but after some time of study and prayer I have come to realize it can be trusted. I would like to share some of the answers I have found to help those whop may still be struggling with this all to important question.
One of the reasons I feel we can trust the bible is because we have the presence of eye witnesses. Many people besides the apostles followed Jesus at any given time 'The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children. ' these people were not in our Lord’s inner circle, but when the gospels were being written these people would have had a measure of control in what was being taught. If someone was spreading false teachings about Jesus like, ‘Jesus said not forgive anyone until the beg for forgiveness’ these people would have said plainly ‘NO’.
Persecution is another reason I feel we can trust the bible. Anyone would be hard pressed to find anyone who would die for something they know is a lie. The first Apostles and early Christians were killed for their faith, and I believe in my heart if there was any reason not to trust the written word of the Lord they would know, I also feel just as strongly that they would not endure what they did if they knew any part of what they believed was a lie. Would you? We also have the promise of the Holy Spirit! Jesus told us in John 14: 26, "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you’. This for me personally is the most important reasons as to why I feel we can trust the bible. The original apostles, and every Christian after has access to the infinite memory of God via the Holy Spirit. If Jesus promises it I believe it.
