Wow that is so amazing and sad.  What is going on?  The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.  How tragic.

I wonder how many poor Chrisitans do not go to church because they can not afford to tithe as is required for membership.  They are the ones that need the church the most.  For help and support.  It's backwards.  The Church is to give to the poor, not the poor Give to the Church.

Good thing eternity is not determined by income.  Although the bible does speak about he Kingdom of Heaven in regards to the rich and the poor.

Darcy...I can not wait to comment on your blog....I am a part of a church in a very "crime & drug infested"; poor(materially) neighbor in the North part of Saint Louis City, Missouri.

I have been trying to find stat.  like you have on D.C.  (my husbands birthplace..as a side bar)  for some time.  I am hoping if the stat for DC is available, so might be the 63115 zip code I hang around in.

I did find the stat on crime...makes $cents$ that our Shepard got mugged last week, with the church's laptop stolen.. God is good...all the time...We praise God that Pastor L. had N his arms that laptop,,,2 B stolen...so that his life was spared 4 another day...we were so blessed 4 the sermon he preached on Sunday 10-21-07

(another side bar....I see it as a God thing that recon77 is commenting...my "soulmate" biker babe asked him a pod cast ? a few days ago, about this very sermon and Pastor (Shepard) I'm talkin' about....No pressure recon77..just was fishin' 4 some free advise....wanted 2 show the breakfast club vistors (homeless &/or poor) 120 souls in attendance on average Sunday morning...the DVD of service...so they could see what they R missin' by not walkin' up stairs 4 the 10:30 "God time: Praise&Worship)
sorry Darcy...I got on 1 of the deep rabbit trails that time...Back 2 your blog theme...
Like I said...I am really looking forwar to not only commenting on your blog..but reading the comments too.
Thanks You & Blessing to U 4 such a good question to pose.
Don't B disappointed if there R not 2 many comments...this is ussually seen (in my opinion) a situation most people seem 2 B N "denial" over...B cause it is probably a source of not only pain...but maybe even guilt.
I think I'm going 2 post this on the comments N your blog...so I can B the 1st 1 2 give U a star..
Windsurfer..a "soulmate" of Bikerbabe
One,  I wasn't the 1st 2 star U...Praise God 4 that 2 !!  (<:

U know...I was able to B a part of a presentation 4 my 63115 church in a group of "Sister" churchs from the 50 mile radius....During part of the bussiness mtg. portion,  I hear the average giving per church goer N these churches is $66-$700.00 / year (365 days only < $2/day)...& the interesting fact is that 75% + attendy R @ the 6 figure income levels,
I did some calulating fast...and the average tithe + 4 my church...not counting myself...cause I give N the "friends" catagory...is $364.00 / year...considering the 12 members...2 are employed full time....5 have this year gone from homelessness to roofs over their heads...of some variety  (ever been to Tiawana, Mexico....the USA has those places like U see between the midians of Mexico 2...we N the USA tend 2 hide it better...My opinion...
8 R unemployed...& 2 have part time jobs paid below the poverty level...oh wait..the single mom just lost her part time job...due to getting pnemonia...& having 2 miss a couple of days of work....The said thing was...2 weeks B4...I asked the "sister" churches 2 consider having a Doctor/nurse pratisioner to visit church monthly 2 help the sick...and their responce was...there a free clinic neae the church...let them go there....Oh.,, my blood is still boilin' !! )>:
With sisters & brother's keepers like that...Satan doesn't have 2 work hard...he can utilize his time elsewhere , cause the rich churches R doing his job 4 him with great proficiency
This church knows what it mean 2 give time & talent 2....CopeHouse and prison ministry is alive & effective there...average 500 visits 2 approximately 11/12 prisons every month from the (materially only) poor in 63115 zip code.

Hi Darcy,

The poor not taking part in the real estate boom is easy to understand because one first has to own reqal estate in order to benefit from its rise in value.
The poor will remain poor until education is provided for children of poor families to go to school, have money for food and clothing. The welfair as we know-it-chain must be broken before progress can be made. It is a crime for the so-called most powerful nation on earth to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into war machines in which by the way, the WEALTHY benefit.
Do you know that as a nation we are light-years behind Japan in both health care and education?
I challenge any of you to read, The Theocracy of America to find out where our Christian/politicle values have strayed. Christians systematically vote for the right wing like blind lambs stumble to the slaughterhouse even though the right wing destroys all hopes of the poor while fueling right-winged war machines developed in the name of OIL and power. I ask you, did Jesus come to look after the poor or big business? President Bush asked and recieved from congress billions of dollars for the pre emptive invation of Iraq and the very next week vetoed a bill for AMERICAN children's health insurance claiming the bill contained too much ''wasteful spending."By the way, over $&700,000,000 of money sent to Iraq can not be accounted for.Over fifty thousand civilians have been shot down in Iraq since the United States invaded that country. We as a country are the modern day Rome, and a large part of Born-again Christian leaders are the new Pharisies. As a nation we could have solved social security and the education bebackle with 1/2 of the money sent to Iraq so far. And for what? Oil and power. Please have the guts to Read The book, based on facts, The Theocracy of America, and you will be convinced that American Christianity is on the side of the rich and powerful at the expense of the poor. This is not an opinion, but a fact. Read this book and find out how Oil and finance sucked the right wing into its duplicity.

Darcy,

You are absolutely right, this is unacceptable. The poor need to be educated and this country has the means to do it. However, our priorities are being set by the powerful and there is no profit in the poor.

We are from India. It interesting to read your blog and also the comments. You are talking about the poor in your country where every citizen is protected under the Goverrnents dole and medical Insurance. Here in our place the poor gets a daily income of hardly $1/2 in the urban areas. If they donot have their days work?. They do have to dependants. most of this working class are drunkards they are more interested in drinking than eating. So imagine the plight of their wife & children. Most cases the women work as servantmaid / civil cooly and with their earning they support the family and give food to their husband who come to their house indrunken state. With beatings these women perpare food from thier earnings and give the prime to these socalled family head and rest to their children and most of the time starve  We as Mosjos Mission Church are trying to educate them and guide them. Our church is not taking any offerings we want to give them the word of God as they are already suffering and struggling for thier day to day life. We as mosjos mission church sincerely request you all to pray for these people. If possible purchase thier products of the gypsies and that will open a way for them.We need your prayer support.
