| What to do with old Bibles? |

7:1 On the day when Moses had finished setting up the tabernacle, and had anointed and consecrated it with all its furnishings, and had anointed and consecrated the altar with all its utensils, I've got a small problem on my hands. A friend and I have jointly bought several cases of $4 Bibles. They're small enought to fit in your pocket and carry with you everywhere, which he and I do (I never leave home without my sword now). The downside is that they get a severe beating in my pocket and wear out after a year or so. Now what do I do with the worn-out Bibles? Do I just toss them away like trash? I'm hesitant to do so, even though they are useless and have no personal notes written in them. They seem...holy to me (even though I'm not worshipping these Bibles). An analogy came to me: what do you do with the corpse of your family cat or dog when it dies? The beloved pet isn't there anymore. It's just a pile of fur now. Do you throw it away like you do the funky chicken you found in the back of the refrigerator? Do you give it a proper burial? Do you cremate it? I'm thinking about collecting the few Bibles that are decrepit and, with a few friends, having a tiny ceremony on the BBQ grill or in a campfire or something. Something with a little prayer thanking God for the gift of His Word that we're storing up in our hearts, and the gift of these little baby Bibles that we can take them with us wherever we go, so that they can assist us in His service. What do you think? |
