Carrying Each Other's Burdens

When I was a child I can remember my father pinning my mother on the ground as he began to punch her in the face. In between blows my mother’s cries for help cut through the silence of the cold night air. I could see lights go in the homes of our neighbours they heard my mother’s pleas from help. But no one came. No one even called the police. They did nothing, because no wanted to get involved. This episode in my life jaded me, and for a long time I would offer no assistance to anyone. Now I don’t know whether it was out of spite for the people who offered us no assistance that cold dark night, or maybe I simply thought that offering no one my help was just the thing to do. The darkness of the deceiver had entered my soul, and I helped no one regardless of their circumstance. I can remember once a man asked me for the time, because he saw I was wearing a watch, I told him to buy a watch and walked away. I went on this way for years until the light of Jesus shone into my darkened heart. We are told to fulfil the law of Christ we must carry each others burdens.
6:2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
This and many other of Jesus’ teachings are not very popular. The world today teaches to look out for number 1 and no one else. Only get involved if it is easy or if a celebrity is doing it, so people ignore the cries of those around them until they become their own. This I am guilty of just as much as anyone! Often though as followers of Jesus we must not be satisfied with doing what is popular instead strive everyday to do what is right.
Christ calls us all to get involved and to bear each other’s burdens. The love and the talents He has given us are meant to be used to aid each other. To answer God’ call takes time, effort, and sacrifice. But it is our call.
Father, help me to use my gifts to serve others. Amen!

Amen. I can relate to this because my I also watched my father beat my mother. Growing up in Brooklyn NY one of the first things you learn is don't get invloved. My father taught me that yet I went against the grain. Bad neighborhoods don't start out bad. They go bad when people shut themselves in and allow fear to rule them to where they will not get involved and keep silence when they see sinful acts being committed. The same can happen in the church when we as the children of God keep silence while our brethren corrupt themselves. As long as there is breath in me I'm not going to shut up. The devil couldn't shut me up before and the only way he will stop me is to take my life. Yes Brother Patrick I will help you with your burdens. You can help me with mine as well. Shalom!

Patrick: Thank you for being transparent, and for holding out this call. It runs so very counter to our culture, and yet is so very basic to fleshing out our faith day by day. Even this fear...of 'getting involved'...is a burden we can help each other bear. Bless you, bro, and Let the Wind Blow.
