One of the things we tell the kids when we teach about the prophetic is that the first test is making sure that the prophetic word is consistent with the Word of God.

PROPHETS, FALSE
These spokesmen, heralds, or messengers falsely speak for, or on behalf of, someone else. The false prophet was often motivated not by loyalty to God but by a desire for popularity.

A prophet or prophetess was a man or woman chosen by God to speak for him and to tell of events in the divine plan.

That was how God communicated his word to his people. In their response to Jesus, the people were in fact more correct than they knew

Bless Yahweh (The Lord) O my soul and all that is within me bless His Holy Name,

Greetings brother Hopefienddave I agree with Sis Lisa Moore the best way to determine a false prophet is to make sure what is being prophised is according to the word of God. Also by the fruits you shall know them Galations 5:22 & 23. We must also study Gods word so when you are approached by a false prophet just as Jesus did when He was approached by satan who is the father of all false prophets He retaliated with scripture. We must also be aware of the fact that the adversary can disguise himself as an angel of light but the one thing the adversary cannot do is live by the Word Of God.You will see in time they will began to show their other side which you will see is not of God. Also you can read this scripture...

Deu 18:15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

Deu 18:16 According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.

Deu 18:17 And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.

Deu 18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

Deu 18:19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

Deu 18:20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

Deu 18:21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?

Deu 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Thanks one and all.  I know God's word is suppose to line up with itself.

Another rule of thumb is that prophecy is usually more confirmational than directional.

Prophecy should come to confirm something the Lord is already dealing with your heart about.  The Holy Spirit within you will bear witness with the prophecy if it is a genuine word from God and if your heart is genuinely seeking God's will instead of your own.

In 1989 I had just been voted out of my church by a small faction.  I went to another local church in town which was associated with Christian International.  A prophet was speaking that night and I was just there to "go to church".  I didn't go up to the altar or anything.  I was trying to be inconspicuous.  The pastor, however, knew about my situation.

After the altar service, he got the prophet's attention and told him I had just been voted out of my church and needed ministry ( I did not ask for it and I felt sorry for the prophet because it appeared to me that he was very tired and the anointing had lifted ).  So, tired as he was, he laid hands on me and began to speak.

He said he saw me in a recliner with my Bible on the floor beside the chair.  He told me that it was time for me to take a rest.  After the rest, he said, I would pick my Bible back up and go a long distance from there to minister for a short time (I though TEXAS!!!) only to return and minister back in Indiana.

I was out of pastoral ministry from September 1989 until October 1992.  In October 1992 I was elected pastor of Bethel Assembly of God in Baltimore, MD.  I pastored at Bethel until January 1995, then God spoke to us through Scripture (Amos) to return to the Wabash Valley and minister here.

So, the prophet's word was directional but it wasn't under my control to make it come to pass.  It took 6 years for that word to be fulfilled.  All I could do was wait on God and continue to be obedient to what I knew from His Word.

You do not need to fear false prophets if you are patient and do not try to fulfill God's word on your own.  The burden of prophecy is on the prophet and on God, not on you.  You follow Jesus, obey His Word, be open to the Holy Spirit, test all things, and rest in the Lord.

True prophets are odd and do strange things.

True prophets don't always see the "big picture".

True prophets can be wrong.

True prophets can lie.

True prophets live in a different "reality".

True prophets can misuse their power.

True prophets can be "cry babies".

This is not my opinion. It is what the scriptures say.

True prophets are odd and do strange things. Isaiah 20:3 (KJV)

Isaiah is instructed by GOD to  wander around for three years naked as a sign and wonder. I bet that did make a lot of people wonder.

True prophets don't always see the "big picture". 1 Kings 19:9-18 (KJV)

Twice Elijah "prays" he is the only one left. His count is only off by 6,999. GOD has a plan and as soon as Elijah quits running GOD will use Him in that plan.

True prophets can be wrong. 1 Samuel 16:1-13 (KJV)

Samuel looks at the countenance of Eliab and is sure that he is the one to be anointed king. He was wrong. God chose a little guy named David insted.

True prophets can lie. 2 Chronicles 18:4-27 (KJV)

In verse 14 Michaiah told Ahab what he wanted to hear knowing it was not true. Ahab doesn't believe him and insists he tells him the truth. The truth was not received well at all.

True prophets live in a different "reality". 2 Kings 6:14-17 (KJV)

Elisha's servant looks and see the city surrounded by an enemy. When Elisha prays for his eyes to be opened the servant sees what Elisha sees, the very present help of the Lord.

True prophets can misuse their power. 2 Kings 2: 23-24 (KJV)

Don't mock Elisha and don't talk about his hair (lack of it). The result may not be "bearable".

True prophets can be "cry babies". The whole book of Jeremiah.

Tears came easily for this man who loved his people and hated what their sin caused to happen. Jeremiah is commonly referred to as "the weeping prophet".

Jesus said of men born of women none were greater than John the Baptist. Kind of on the wild looking side he lived his life solely to prepare a people for the coming Messiah. But Jesus also said that those least in the kingdom of GOD was greater than he. What is the least that GOD expects from us?

Micah 6:8 He hath showed thee, O man, what is good. And what doth the Lord require of thee but to do justly, love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy GOD.

Christian Superstar

I watch as others give their talents
But there is no need for my two cents

Great is the work and small my ability
Sorrow filled my heart at this reality

Others win applause for their performance
But someone like me never gets a chance

A silent cry pierces the air
Of one drowning in despair

The show goes on no one sees
Or hears the drowning one's pleas

I jump in and do the best I can
Somehow we make it back to land

Great response as the Spirit leads
The trough is full as everyone feeds

Except for one who cannot walk
I sit down and together we talk

Sharing today's manna we feast
Life is uncomplicated among the least

The show is over everyone has to go
The traffic away moved so slow

A hitch-hiker is passed again and again
I stop my little car to let him in

That was some show don't you agree
I couldn't get in but some things I did see

I saw a drowning person saved by you
As you did what others would not do

I saw you pass the feast for the least
Unwilling to leave one behind for the beast

Let me shake your hand you're a superstar
It was then I noticed in His hand the scar
