Today, I sat and wondered about my life, others I know, and those I've known. There is an uncertainty that hovers over each of us like a bridge over water. What does it take for that bridge to stand? Maintenance by constant care. I like to watch Dirty Jobs and recently they showed what it takes to keep a bridge standing. Everyday workers work in the hidden parts of the bridge to keep the inside from decaying. They do more cleaning on the inside of the bridge than the outside. How many times have we cleaned up the outside of ourselves and never thought twice to clean the inside?
Ever tried to walk on a curb, one foot in front of the other while trying to keep your balance? That's exactly what this uncertainty feels like. On the right side is who you used to be, and on the left is temptation for things you have never tried. The curb in this case is the life you now live for GOD. It's a major balancing challenge. One slip to the right lands you back into what you fought so hard to get out of.
One slip to the left lands you into even more trouble and despair. The uncertainty grows with each step you take. As a child, I fell more times than I care to even mention. But now as I walk down this path daily with GOD, I just wish the curb was bigger. It seems like life would be so much easier if the curb was just six inches bigger. Thing is, instead of wishing for a bigger curb, I should have been wishing to become smaller. Think about it, how many times has a bug ever lost its balance as its walking along the curb?
That's what the BIBLE means by "I must decrease so that GOD may increase." John 3:30 King James Version says, "He must increase, but I must decrease." If we decrease then walking on the curb won't be so hard and because either side of the curb is so far away because of how small we are now, we don't have to worry about falling or slipping off. By giving GOD more control of our lives, we know all will be okay because HE always sees the bigger picture and adds great balance to our lives.
Matthew 6:33 - "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." That's the best balance we can ever ask for. I know you are thinking, "don't bugs get squashed all the time."
I take the approach to this using what was said in Matthew 10:39 - "He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it." Bugs mostly get squashed by people who are afraid of them, want them gone, or are annoyed by their presence, so steer clear of people like that. You know the ones I'm talking about: the quick tempered person who acts before they think, the one who always wants you to help them with their dirty work, that one who talks you into doing the very things you know are wrong, those who laugh at your dreams and goals and say you will never be this or that, the ones who are always tripping you up and stopping you from achieving, those who want you to be their mini-me and are always belittling (talking about) you.
These people I call RAID because they are always out to kill you or harm you in some way(s) either mentally, emotionally, physically, and/or spiritually.
Be like this spider I once tried to kill. I stepped on him, but he didn't die. I sprayed him with Raid, but he didn't die. I stepped on him several more times, but yet he refused to die. I finally gave up and left him alone. Just like the spider, we don't give up nor die when people and satan come to kill us, but we keep fighting, and we will reach our divine destiny. The curb isn't what needs to get bigger, we need to get smaller by getting humble before GOD. You don't need to keep cleaning the outside, but now is the time to clean the inside.
