| Are you a Coward? |

I was aimlessly roaming around the Internet today when I got this idea to do a search for Children’s Ministry Blogs. I mean, really, why not? I follow blogs on cell phones, technology, odd news, my iPhone, family, and organization. My passion has been, and always will be children’s ministry. Why not follow children’s ministry news in this fashion. I came upon two disturbing discoveries. - There are not to many quality children’s ministry blogs that I can find…yet
- Then I found a blog with a question that could change my life
That question changed my life! On August 10, 1999 I was having lunch with a mentor at Red Lobster and discussing with him that I really felt God was stirring me to do something; however, I THOUGHT of an option or two and informed my buddy of my incredibly safe plans. He looked at me as I was eating a cheese biscuit and asked, “What would you be willing to attempt for God if you knew you could not fail?” Without hesitation I answered, “I would start a church!” He replied, “You are a coward if you don’t!” I have been in children’s ministry for over 10 years. 10 YEARS!!!!! When I started, I had a vision. It was to have a Children’s Center. Not just a building and babysitters but an interactive building. One that was made to be touched, played with, and experienced. Every aspect of it was to help bring kids closer to God and Families closer to each other. But along comes life. Has anyone met him? A robust cheerful little fellow, that greets you with open arms but has no time for you to pursue your passions. He is all about the here and now. He introduced me to my wife and showed me the wonder of kids. He got me my current job and has helped with the bills. Thanks to life, I have insurance and retirement. What’s funny is I have never gotten close to accomplishing the goals I set out to many, many, many years ago. Where now I don’t have the same vision for a building. I do have a passion for families and marriages. Kids are still my heart so why do I hold back from going full throttle with a vision that has always been there. Am I a coward? Are you? [via] |

| Wow...that's really all I say. That really hit my heart. I think God often puts dreams on our hearts that seem above our own capabilities and visions, but that's because they are. With God, however, all things can be done. Stepping out in faith in the will of God will have great rewards. VBF Bakerfield did when they came to Vegas, but God has blessed and provided for the faithfulness. My sister was saved through the college group at VBF and she's the one who brought me to the Lord. Without that step in faith and following a dream bigger than what seemed possible, my family and I am sure there are a myriad of other awesome God changes in the lives of other VBF members that would not have occured! Praise God for His visions |

I'm not really sure if being a coward is the issue. Gideon wasn't very courageous, but by God's grace he was faithful. God used Gideon despite his timidity. Personally, I'd rather do something out of devotion to God, instead of fear of anything. At the same time, I'm a timid person. I'm just glad God will give me the grace I need to keep doing His will - when I need it. It's funny how scared I can get of things that might happen if I do what God wants me to do (which for me is record my music). **Shameless Pug Alert" Please take a look at my home page, I have some links to song lyrics I'd love your opinion on (My Home Page). BTW, J Doss, if you think plugging my own page on your blog is inappropriate, please let me know. If so I'd like to repost my comments without the link. |

It's like that old cheesy saying:
Shoot for the moon and the worst you can do is miss and hit a star or something like that. But God uses dreams often to get you on a path that starts you somewhere.
We serve and move from Glory to Glory and when you are faithful in the small things He will give you bigger things. Who knows that if you become faithful where you are at right now that it will still not happen.
It is not too late. Pastor Ron started being faithful 30 some odd years ago and look what God did with Him. A guy who grew up in ARVIN of all places. God moved him from Glory to Glory and he served God in whatever capacity he found himself at the time and did it whole heartedly. I am convinced that when you serve the Lord with all your heart even if it is cleaning toilets and wiping drool from babies in the nursery God will find you to make that dream come true for His Kingdom.
Was it not Pastor Jim who thought that his dream was to become a Veterinarian? Pastor Ron a Nutritionist or something like that Lawyer or something? Just move with His spirit, glory to glory and we will all see what happens.... Be Blessed,

We bear fruit in our season. Perhaps your season has come!
I'd be careful speaking th word coward about yourself. As soon as I read your post I was reminded of this verse in Revelations 21:7-8
All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children. “But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” The first time I read this verse I could not believe that cowards ranked alongside unbelievers, murderes, the immoral and such....that's kinda scary actually.
One of things I am working on in my walk is to reject pacivity. This verse is reason enough to keep myself motivated!
Commit your plans to the Lord and you will succeed!
Great post!

The only true security comes from allowing God to be the Lord of one's life. Where we work doesn't matter, but should we allow fear stop us from doing what God has put in our hearts? Of what are we afraid? As Pasor Jim put it to me one day last May: "Greg, who is God to you?" 1:7 for God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 1:7 for God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. It is not always easy to live by faith, but God never promised us it would be. The question posed by the story presumes one is not currently doing anything significant. Be careful. Significance is subjective. Do what God calls you to do. Pray and ask for confirmation--ask God to make it clear. Nobody likes to be called a coward, but let God drive your decision. Trust God - you're a coward if you don't! I'm excited to hear about what kind of faith is going to be exercise as a result of this thread. |
