| There Is Victory in the Battle |
|
| |
The origin of the battle that we all face is found in the first few chapters of the book of Genesis. Originally, before Adam and Eve fell, earth as we know it was very different from what it is today. Everything that was created in its original form, God called good. Since sin had not yet entered the world, what God created had not yet been tainted. Prior to the Fall, trees, flowers, and grass would never destined to die. Thus, the ecology of our planet manifested utter perfection. There was nothing or no one polluting the environment and nothing to tear away at our ozone layer. Consequently, there was nothing to prevent mankind from enjoying what God had created. God made mankind a home that men and women could enjoy. It was perfect in every way. However, on one fatal day, everything changed. Eve was in the Garden enjoying what God had created when the Serpent came to tempt her to go against what God had commanded. The exchange is not unlike what you and I encounter everyday. Satan attempts to gain a foothold in our lives through a lie that he presents intending for us to act on it in order to get us to sin. The Genesis account depicts Satan challenging Eve to partake of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Knowing that Eve had been told by God not to partake of this certain tree, Satan casts doubt on what God said by stating, “Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" (Gen. 3:1). At this juncture, Eve could have rejected Satan’s lie, but instead dismissed God’s previous warning, and partook of fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The tragic result was that sin had now entered the world. Following the aforementioned encounter, Eve then tempts Adam to do the same thing. After partaking of the forbidden fruit, “she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves” (Gen. 3:6c-7). The intimate fellowship that they once enjoyed with God, had now been lost. According to Millard Erickson, “In the case of Adam and Eve, trust, love, comfort, and closeness was replaced by fear, dread, and avoidance of God.” The relationship between them and God was dramatically different. Intimacy with God was no longer the source of their security. The love that once filled their heart was immediately replaced with insecurity, inferiority, and the unfortunate ability to give and receive rejection. The Way Things Used to Be Prior to the fall, things were much different than they are now. According to Genesis 3:8, after Adam and Eve had sinned, they “heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.” Why such a reaction? Prior to the fall “they customarily had fellowship with God. He loved them and provided everything that they needed.” This level of fellowship had now been lost. “As soon as the voice of God sounded, Adam and Eve perceived that the leaves they used to cover themselves were of no avail.” Consequently, the responded to their new found condition by seeking to hide from God. Adam answers God’s question regarding his location by stating, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid" (Gen 3:10). Likewise, as we travail through life, sin causes us to want to hide from God, as well as from feelings of being rejected, abandonment, guilt, fear etc. These lies must be replaced with the truth of God’s Word. On a previous post, I listed several Scriptures that would assist you and me in taking take that first step to freedom. As you and I memorize and confess these Scriptures, we will begin to experience a personal restoration that will lead to peace, joy, and the security that comes with drawing closer to Jesus.

| As in any battle there are also casualties, many are wounded and there is colatteral damage. This is the stark reality of warfare, but I agree with you Tim that there is victory. Even one soul that we snatch from the mouth of hell is a major victory. I'm a victor and so are you and anyone else that has overcome by the blood of the Lamb. We are more than conquerors and it is our duty and privelege to invade the enemy's strongholds and overrun his kingdom. Keep fighting because our victory is a sure one. We have nothing to fear. Shalom |

Thank you, MY Church Pastor Tim, for being my pastor and bringing this wonderful set of scriptures to our attention. And I can't begin to thank you for all the time and effort you go through in digging for, finding and sharing HEAVENLY TREASURES with the rest of us.
Here's what I'm going to do...put all these verses up over the sink and start to ponder them and let them sink in as a group. Hopefully there will be someone I can share them with who feels rejected and unloved. This means I have to keep my eye out for someone...and people don't generally wear a big sign "I am depressed, help me." They generally try to hide it like I do. It means I have to stop looking at my problems and being depressed myself (lately...the demons are hanging on my legs and from around my neck, weighting me down right now. Read "This Present Danger" to understand where I'm coming from.)
My daughter Cheri and I are going to learn these verses for Bible Time...we usually make flashcards and also puzzles out of white cardboard to do this. Sometimes we write stories of application.
Then, I'm sending them to India for Siani Harpal to give to the 153 orphans. There are some big words they will not understand, but he will do his best to clarify. They need to know they are already accepted and adopted by God since Siani specifically rescued THEM from among their 80% Hindu countrymen. God did that for a special purpose. (Pray that we'll be able to adopt a few after we go there to visit and help teach English, violin and keyboard for a month. Whenever God makes this possible, hopefully after one more month.) |

Tim, what a wonderful thing to remind us of. The poetic license you took did not detract from the lesson. The sources you quoted are of the highest caliber. The lesson you taught is so applicable to everything we do every day.
If I am doing anything, and in my heart I KNOW that it is God who is the source of my security, my choices, my life's decisions will be DRASTICALLY different than if I am seeking my security in my own efforts. |

Grant, thanks for the complement. However, I did have one question. I was wondering where I took poetic license?
Blessings brother,

| It's always good to go back to the beginning and think about how things were in the pure creation God gave us before sin corrupted our world. Well done! |
|
|
| Thank you and bless you for sharing. I was so inspired I had to print the blog because God immediately told me of others to share this with. Praise God that through and by him we are all victorious. This was truly an inspiration and at the exact time I needed it. God Bless! |
