63:1O God, thou art my God; earnestly will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee, In a dry and weary land, where no water is. 63:2 So have I looked upon thee in the sanctuary, To see thy power and thy glory. 63:3Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise thee.
I must begin by saying God's love and grace is awesome. I heard this song when Andrew and Katie sang at the STL service, and fell in love. I began to look for scriptures relating to the song in scripture and ran across this Psalm. David is writing here about his earnest and passionate worship. He describes how his SOUL literally thirst for God. He describes how his BODY longs for him as in a dry and weary land without water. You see when we begin to wholeheartedly seek after God, as David, we feel different things:
1. Soul- My soul thirsts for you. My insides are needing you. I feel empty and void of something, and only you God can supply this. So lord I want to sit at your feet and drink from the cup in your hand. Lord I just want your heartbeat! Can you see how this works?
2. Mind/Body- Here the Psalmist writes that his body longs for God, and that his lips will glorify God. When we truly start to seek God's face, things will change. We will start to do things different. Our thought process changes. We begin to worship God not just inwardly but also outwardly. We change the way we talk, the way we act, and the way we make our presence known.
You see Proverbs 22 says that our reputation and the way we make ourselves known is more then our words. How do you present yourself?
This song simply says that the more I seek you the more I find you, and the more I find you the more I love you. You see as we begin to seek God, He makes his presence known to us. The more he makes his presence known, the more we experience his love and grace. Isn't it nice when you can just sit at the feet at the one you love and just feel like all is well. God is saying to us come and sit at my feet. Drink from my cup. Come all who are heavy laden and I will give you rest. I truly believe that I am not alone in the need to seek God more. Some of you may be in the church and feel like everything is OK. I encourage you to seek God more. You see the dead sea is dead because there is no fresh water flowing into it. It is not moving. Sometimes in our own lives we get complacent and stop seeking God's will and before we know it we become dry. Read this Psalms, hear this song. Seek God and see what happens.
