When I am financial counseling, one of my favorite verses to use is Matthew 25:29. People who are good stewards with what God has given us will have more and have it in abundance. This applies to much more than financial counseling but is a life verse. We need to be asking ourselves the following questions: Am I being a good steward of God?s provision? Am I being a good steward of the ministry that God has entrusted to me? Am I taking care of the material things that God has given to me, not as mere possessions earned by me, but as blessings from God? As Christians, we are expected to do everything unto God in an excellent way. When we are good stewards I would argue, we rise to God?s expectation of us and are excelling in what we are doing. This is much different than the world?s expectation. In our post-modern world people are not striving for excellence but for what feels good at the moment. Striving for this ideal of pleasure certainly does not cultivate good stewardship and one pays a hefty price. Matthew 16:26 poses the question, ?What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?? Christians are called to be in this world but not of this world. Be different. Rise to God?s expectation and be obedient to Him. Be a good steward of what God has blessed you with and he will bless you even more mightily. Teach one to lead one. Doing all I do for the glory of Christ,Rob |
