Krista,
Thank you for the glimpse into Bolivian city life.  It is so easy to forget and not appreciate all that we have here.  We complain when the garbage man does not use the robotic arm correctly and our cans fall on their sides after pickup.
It is amazing how quickly we get inured to the cushy "clean" and "sophisticated".  In Pacoima we had a paletero, a verdurero and guy who sold fresh donuts door to door; in Northridge that is unheard of and that is just being across town.
My kids do not have a real appreciation for all that we have. I will certainly be sharing the Taste of Bolivia with them.

Krista ~

You are such a gifted writer!!!!  As I read your blog about Bolivia it quickly reminds me of the many privileges we tend to take for granted here in the U.S.

Although I am of an age where I remember the "Helm's Bakery" truck" driving by certain days of the week (we blew a whistle if we wanted him to stop), from the 1950's on most of us had electricity, water piped to our homes, natural gas and weekly rubbish services. We also had phone service, though I remember in the 1950's we had what was called a "party line" one that you shared with a neighbor.  Now most homes have computers with high-speed internet, cable or satellite TV service and cellphones. We so easily get irritated and inconvenienced if our internet or cable goes down or our cellphone drops a call!

Thank you Krista for sharing some of the everyday life of living in Bolivia.  It causes me to be more appreciative of the many things I just take for granted and expect.
